Many countries are still finding ways on how to control the information people access or are able to send out to the internet. Many countries now see a reason to restrict the information people have access to on the internet.

Nigeria government recently announced that they were planning to control activities of Nigerians on the social media which they see as a medium the Nigerian youths use to air their views (legally or illegally).

If you look at some of the insults, false allegations, misinformation and many other things that happen online, you will be tempted to agree with the government that online activities need to be censored.

A closer look on the activities that are being banned by countries points to another direction which suggests it is political.

While other factors can be given as reasons for this barbaric restriction, I argue that it is majorly political and it aims at capturing the human faculty with the intention to control how people reason and think.

Internet restriction has been happening for a while now but we just didn't notice. There are many occasions that I have tried to access a video online but I was unable to because my country is not allowed to access such video.

There are also many surveys that as a Nigerian I have been denied access because such surveys are restricted for my region. With this, you begin to ask, what is it that make this same video or survey good for people from other countries but bad for me as a Nigerian?

You can see it a real restriction but many people don't talk about.

These countries: Eritrea, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Iran, China, Myanmar, Cuba have certain restrictions on internet. If you look at the incidents that have happened in these countries in the past, you will see that these restriction is purely political, with the intention to create a robotic human brain.

If you look at the journalists that have been arrested, the sites restricted and the allegations levied against these people, you will know that the government simply want certain information kept secret.

The Chinese for instance have created more than 60 online restrictions for publishers and readers, invested money and employed human to create AI to monitor individual activities online.

The real essence of these restrictions (I think.) is to make the people dogma. Dogma in the sense that they read those things which the government consider harmless to the system (government) and their people. Whether these things are truly harmful to the readers (and the country in the real sense of the word ‘harmful’) is another question entirely.

Government banning citizens from accessing information could limit the country's intelligence. People read and see things online which inspire them to create something similar for their people to use and benefit from.

A restriction placed on certain information could limit the people, and they could remain in one place.

This technique of restricting information tends to create zombies. By zombies, I mean humans who are easily manipulated by the government and could be easily bought with anything.

Don't forget that the internet is very much faster than prints. Information gotten and not easily published online could suffer a huge setback and could be manipulated easily.

A country where people are restricted from accessing information that could better their lives and that of their country is a country set for doom.

No matter how you look at it, it will always boil down to the fact that certain information in the hands of the people can bring about the downfall of a government which they plan to stop at all cost.

If this restriction is truly for the people, then certain restrictions on pornography, gambling and things that encourage smoking and drinking could be excused but in the real sense they are enacted to simply limit their citizens’ mental faculty.

It is a kind of controlling mechanism that remotely tell the people how to think, reason, what to think or reason about. This method is somewhat autocratic and restricts the human capacity to explore and be creative.

In summary, internet restriction works in favor of the government and deny the citizens’ their freedom to information. Information is power and government logically fear what the people might do with them if they have access to all the information around them.
