Hi guys. My name is Laura! Welcome to the “Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Book Club" here on Sobuka. Here on this channel, we cover international cryptocurrency markets, so what best way to help educate people on what is going on is by looking at authors and experts in the cryptocurrency space who have a broad understanding of international markets with our focus being Latin America, Africa, Middle East, and the South Asian Pacific. This type of subject makes it a great fit for this channel. Today I will be going over the book titled, “The Cryptocurrency Called Bitcoin” by Lee Maxwell.

This is really an introductory level book. So for a majority of you guys subscribed to this channel, I’ll be honest: This book will not be useful to you. If you have been keeping up with this channel, you are by far more advanced and familiar than the average person in the cryptocurrency industry. This channel since its beginning has always assumed that you have some understanding of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Myself, Laura, Brian, or Nick do not need to explain “What is Bitcoin.” There are already tons of stuff like that in the social medial space. And this channel was never meant to act as an introductory 101 level course. With that remark, if you have not done so, you can check out my last review of Simon Dixon’s book from last week called ‘Bank to the Future” which is a very advanced and high level read. Or if you have already done so, I will be going over another advanced book next week on this channel. Since there are new people entering this market everyday with a lack of understanding of what Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is about, for those people, this book has a decent amount of information.

However, a few things are relatively outdated like the Dark coin reference which is currently known as Dash. And there is also reference to Dogecoin and Namecoin being on the list of top cryptocurrencies which is definitely not true...well depending on what you consider the top. For me Dogecoin and Namecoin are nowhere on my personal list of top 10 cryptocurrencies. Though this book was updated in 2017, there are a few old items that one has to overlook. Given how the cryptocurrency industry changes so rapidly, sometimes it is very hard to keep up with the changes. Therefore, I will give Maxwell a break there.<br></br><br></br>
So today I will go over what this book is still relevant for by going through its contents. This book teaches about the history of cryptocurrencies and how it can profit your business. It also talks about “What is Bitcoin” and about the Bitcoin market. But please be warned that the Bitcoin market is constantly changing and evolving. For example, as I am talking with you today as of the time of this recording or blog post, whichever one you are viewing, China just banned ICO’s. So nothing is ever set to stone in this market. However this section of Maxwell’s book is great for providing a general overview.

Further, Maxwell talks about the future of Bitcoin, it’s advantages, and how it can be used in the retail environment, and what Bitcoin can be used for. Here on this channel, we have talked about retail establishments like “Take A Lot” Dot Com which is based in South Africa and “Overstock” Dot Com which has operations in the West already accepting Bitcoin. Maxwell also talks about several disadvantages of Bitcoin which can be argued upon, but again it offers a great overview and interesting perspective.<br></br><br></br>
The book also goes over areas like mining Bitcoin, trading Bitcoin, and performing Binary Options Trading. Now this channel does not support Bitcoin mining as there are too many scams and ridiculous contracts out there. It also does not focus on buying Bitcoin options or buying cryptocurrencies via leverage. So please be aware of the risks. The section of the book titled the “Impact of Bitcoin on Currency” is rather interesting and a good read. We already see today how Bitcoin is impacting 2nd and 3rd world countries by competing with local currencies. And more particularly, I like the section of the book called “How Bitcoin Will Promote Latin American Growth” since here on Sobuka we cover the Latin American situation and more specifically what has been going on in areas like Venezuela and Argentina.
The areas of the book that I might not too fond of is “How to Earn Bitcoin Online”, “Best Bitcoin Sites”, and “Where Can you Buy Bitcoin Like This.” I am not too particularly fond of these sections because again the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency industry is a dynamic environment that changes constantly and one has to perform their own independent research on what role they want to get involved within the cryptocurrency ecosystem ranging from mining Bitcoin, investing directly in Bitcoin, or using it in business. And there are lots of ways to interact with Bitcoin in this market. That is just 1% of the ideas that I have mentioned. I can name a lot more to fill up an entire book for you guys. But again, I think what Maxwell is doing here is providing a good overview and baseline.
To conclude, this book is still a great read and to be fair, the author Lee Maxwell does try his best to stay up to date for an industry that changes as much as a toddler is to diapers.
