**Here are four of the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer**, each in a much-shortened form, meaning exactly 100 words. Chaucer himself is the only pilgrim who tells two stories, both included here.

## History of the Priora

A young Christian must cross the Jewish quarter while he goes to school. On leaving, he sings a Christian hymn that annoys the Jews so much that they kill him and throw his body into a cloaca. His mother finds her body, which she still sings, even if she is dead. He is taken to the abbey to be buried and the Jews are condemned and executed. The boy says that he can go to heaven only when he takes a seed that the Virgin Mary put on his tongue. This is done and his body is buried.

### Story of Sir Thopas of Chaucer

Sir Thopas rides a fairy queen along with a path full of flowers and birdsong, but the giant Sir Oliphant gets in his way. He proposes to fight the giant but says he does not have his own armor and he has to go home and look for her. The giant throws stones at him. Once home, Sir Thopas told his men the giant, who now has three heads. At this point, the host tells Chaucer that he can no longer stand this nonsense and stop what he's doing.

#### Melibee's Story of Chaucer

Melibee comes to their house and found out that three men came in and attacked his wife, Sophie, and Prudence, his daughter, who was seriously injured. Melibee and Prudence then discuss what steps Melibee should take and seek the advice of several friends, many of whom are contradictory. Melibee is all about confronting violence with violence, but caution is not so safe. She advises patience, makes peace and the rule of law. In the end, he calls the three attackers and forgives them after the apology. Is Sophie recovering? They do not tell us, but that seems unlikely!

##### History of the monk

It is not a story, but seventeen, which tells how different people in history and mythology have become practitioners. Some of them are well-known personalities, such as Nero and Alexander the Great, some are from the Bible or apocryphal, like Samson, Baldassarre and Antiochus, and some characters that were known in the fourteenth century, as they are now, like Bernabo Visconti and Ugolin di Pisa. Finally, the knight has enough and asks the monk to stop, because he prefers to hear stories of size increases instead of falling for them.
