미국 로빈후드 사용자의 극단적 선택
미국 증시의 폭락시마다 동학개미라 불리우는 로빈후드 투자자가 급증하고 있다

로빈후드는 무료 수수료를 기반으로 하는 미국의 증권 매매 시스템인데 주로 개미들이 애용하고 있으며 2016년 100만개의 계좌를 달상한 이후  작년말 기준 계좌수가 1천만개 수준에서 6개월이 지나지 않은 시점에  1천 3백만개의 계좌로 급격하게 증가했고 평균 이용 연령은 31세로 매우 낮은편에 속한다

이처럼 주식 거래에 대한 이해도가 낮은 젊은 사용층이 이용하다보니 이에따른 부작용도 심각하다

미국 네브라스카 대학 2학년생인 20살 알렉산더 케언스가 자신의 로빈후드 계좌에서 현금잔액이 마이너스 73만 달러가 된것을 확인하고는 극단적인 선택을 하고 말았다는 것이다

이 잔액이 복잡한 옵션 거래로 인해 발생했고 자신이 극단적인 선택을 하는 것이 가족을 보호하는 일로 생각하고 일을 저질렀다는 추측을 하고 있다

전문가들 역시 무료 수수료의 로빈후드 앱을 너도 나도 사용하면서 시장 과열을 초래하고 있다고 지금의 상황을 경고했다

한편 로빈후드는 이 소식을 접하고 미국 자살방지재단에 25만달러를 기부할 것이라 밝히며  자살 방지 프로그램에 사용해 줄것을 요청했다

또한 플랫폼내 옵션 거래에 관련된 교육 컨텐츠를 강화하고 무분별한 투자 손실을 방지하기 위한 개선책을 내놓겠다고 밝혔다고 한다

투자 손실로 인해 극단적인 삶을 선택할 수 밖에 없었던 젊은 청년에 대해 매우 안타까운 생각이 들고 삼가 고인의 명복을 빌어본다
