"Zhabovnik" (slang rus.) is a small, relatively shallow, overgrown body of water (pond,backwater) or similar location on a large pond.

Who first called pike caught in a place like this "toad" ( zhaba in russian), I'm not known for certain. But the name got accustomed, and such overgrown ponds, backwaters on small rivers, shallow bays with grass on large rivers began to be called in use as "zhabovnik" (the place where you live many toads) ...

Such, covered with ripples almost completely small ponds, canals and rivers full of all around any locality. Because of their external unpresentability, they are often ignored by anglers. "Yes that I   the swamp is my  favorite Wobbler thrown???"))). And for good reason!))

There are several advantages of fishing in such places. They often just do not notice, not counting the interesting and complex in terms of fishing. Most of them have no fishing pressure. Such reservoirs many, and they often localized so, that for one fishing day can be to visit on several. Fishing in these waters develops you as a spinnind-angler. Precision casting, a variety of baits and techniques of animation, fishing skills in difficult places. All this will then help out more than once in other trips...

About tackle. We need the rod to 2.1-2.4 meters long, with the test on baits up to 10-18 grams, fast action with sensitive tip and powerful butt part ( power needed when pulling a trophy out of grass or snags). Reel 2000-2500 on the line Shimano. Cord # 0.8 to 1.2. Although bait mostly light, and the trophies are not very large, the stock cord will not be superfluous due to the difficult conditions of fishing ( grass,sticks, reeds, etc.).
What you need to have in a box with lures. Unloaded silicone-lures on offset hooks. Wobblers-minnow 70-100 mm bright and natural colors. Oscillating spinners-uncoupling (with protected fishing line or string hook). Surface offset-lures (such as frogs or Croatian eggs). Huge reserves need not. Literally 4-6 pieces of each name. Frogs and Croatian eggs will be enough for a pair of pieces.

Pike are a fun fish to catch. They are strong and put up a good fight. The meat is absolutely delicious as well. Just gotta catch a big one because they are so boney. I've been catching a lot of big bass here on our lake.  I have posted a picture in my introduction post yesterday but plan to post more in the fishing tag.
