동물원 가족들의 봄맞이 풍경
**서울대공원 동물원의 동물 가족들은 어떻게 봄을 맞이하고 있는지 알아볼까요...**

2cm나 되는 긴 속눈썹은 사막의 거친 모래바람을 막아준다고 합니다.

청각과 시각이 뛰어나서 작은 소리에도 깜짝 놀라는데, 1km 거리에 있는 무리도 알아볼 수 있고 또한, 색깔을 구별할 수 있다고 하네요


**늑대의 소리는 불길하다?**

늑대의 하울링(Howling)은 의사소통의 한 방법으로, 오래 전 사람들이 이러한 소리를 포악하거나 악한 것으로 오해한 것이라고 합니다.


**점박이물범(Spotted Seal, 천연기념물 331호)**

우리나라에서는 서해안 백령도 근처에서 볼 수 있는데, 몸에 작은 점들이 불규칙적으로 많아 점박이물범 이라고 불린다고 하네요.
물범들은 육지에서 움직일 때는 몸을 통통 튀어서 움직이는 것이 특징입니다.


**단봉낙타(Dromedary Camel)**

<까마귀 2마리가 낙타 등 위에서 털을 다 뽑고 있네요.ㅠㅠ>

수명이 약 40년으로 B.C. 3천 년에 이미 가축화되었고 야생에서는 살지 않는다고 하네요.
“사막의 배”라는 이름이 있듯이 사막에서의 운반이나 여행에는 퍽 유용한 동물이죠.

등의 혹에는 물이 있는 것이 아니라 지방이 가득 차 있어 영양의 창고 구실을 하며, 

또한, 더위에서도 체내의 수분을 되도록 덜 소비하는 생리 때문에 사막의 어려운 환경에서도 잘 견딜 수 있다고 합니다

서울대공원 동물원은 국내 유일 코끼리 전용 “황토목욕탕인데, 야생에서 코끼리들은 수시로 진흙, 모래 목욕을 즐긴다고 합니다.

땀샘이 없는 코끼리들은 진흙 목욕을 통해 체온을 조절하고 몸에 있는 나쁜 벌레들을 쫓아내 피부를 건강하게 관리 할 수 있다고 합니다.



**하마**

하마와 가장 가까운 동물은 돼지도 아니고 듀공도 아닌, 고래라고합니다.

고래와 하마는 6천만 년 전 같은 조상으로부터 갈라져 지금의 하마와 고래가 되었다고 하네요.

호랑이도 춘곤증이 있는지 따뜻한 봄날씨에 낮잠이 자고픈가 봅니다.

**동물원에 언제 와 봤는지 기억이 잘 나질 않지만, 대략 수십년 만에 동물원에 와보니 동심의 세계로 돌아간 듯한 느낌이 들기도 합니다.**
