Near the town Malinska looms a building overtaken by nature, the former Hotel Haludovo Palace. It used to be the most luxurious hotel in Southeastern Europe. @wnfdiary takes us around, showing us a picture of how it used to look compared to how it looks now. Back in 1972, the investment into the project was a whopping 45 million dollars. An airport and a bridge to the mainland were some of the needed changes to the current infrastructure to make the hotel as accessible as possible. Even though the opening day was somewhat of a disaster it didn't persuade journalists from all over the world to write about it. A playground for the rich and famous it is rumored that the hotels pool one day was filled entirely with champagne. Unfortunately after only one year the place had to declare bankruptcy, eventually being used as a shelter for refugees during the Yugoslav Wars. First up is the Tijuca Rainforest and the famous Christ Redeemer statue. But those are definitely not the only places we're visiting today! Next up is the Esacadria Selaron, the famous mosaic stairs where Snoop Dog once made a music video. Once you reach the top of the stairs you'll have an incredible view over the city. But well, the higher you go, the better the views, so after going up the stairs, we go all the way to the top of Sugarloaf mountain. With it being pretty cloudy the day @ivansnz went, it gave off a mystical vibe and the scenery from so high up is stunning! The adventure starts off with hitchhiking to the Trift Glacier - as it is only accessible by car. Luckily they found a ride quite fast, as standing around in the cold just isn't fun (I speak from personal experience here as well, haha)! After getting dropped of at a small chalet from where the hike starts, it was time to start climbing up. After 45 minutes they make it to the Steinsee lake.
