The annual ACC vs Big 10 Challenge in College Basketball continues tonight after 2 games last night. It is the first Conference vs Conference challenge ever that started in 1999. The teams play for bragging rights every year and there is a ton of trash talking between fans.  It took the Big 10 Conference 11 years to finally win one.  The ACC leads the overall series 11-5-2.  Duke has the most wins overall with a record of 16-2. The popularity of this event has spread to other conferences all over the country.

Last night the action got started with an exciting game between the Maryland Terrapins at the Syracuse Orange. The game was close from start to finish and went down to the final seconds. Tyus Battle led the Orange to the win and had 18 points including 13 down the stretch.

The other game last night was between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Virginia Cavaliers. Both teams play a slow tempo and focus on defense. Virginia has been the best defensive team in the country for several years in a row. They were able to hold Wisconsin to a season low 37 point total. Virginia won comfortably with the 49-37 win and were led by sophomore Kyle Guy who had 17 points.

Tonight’s action should be great with 5 games on the schedule.

The most intriguing match up will be with the Louisville Cardinals playing at the Purdue Boilermakers. Louisville was the #5 Preseason Ranked team before all hell broke lose with the firing of Hall of Fame head coach Rick Pitino.  He was caught up in a massive bribery and kick back scandal involving recruits.  Because of this, Louisville has lost some players and the preseason turned into chaos.  There is still a lot of talent left on the team and they are the #17 team in the country.

Purdue also has high hopes this year and are a favorite to win the Big 10. Their season got off to a shaky start as they went 1-2 in the Maui Invitational Tournament last week including an over time loss to Tennessee. But head coach Matt Painter will right the ship and the Boilermakers have Final 4 potential.
