Beat the Bookie is back with some locks for another college football Saturday. We will give you our best 3 plays of the week and tell you how and why to bet on them. Conference play has started for most teams and there are some great non conference matchups as well so let's get started!

The Texas Tech Red Raiders face the Houston Cougars. Both teams are 2-0 and the game is in Houston. The Cougars were one of the best teams in college football over the last 2 seasons. But Head Coach Tom Herman is gone to the University of Texas and star quarterback Greg Ward Jr. is long gone too. Although the season has started off well for Houston, they are about to face one of the premiere offenses in the country.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are +7 in this game and not only do I think they will cover the spread, but I am calling for an all out WIN! Quarterback Nic Shimonek is having a monster season. He is throwing for 463 yards a game and has 9 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions.  The Red Raiders are leading the country in passing yards per game and are the #6 highest scoring team in the country. The Cougars will move the ball against the Red Raiders but they simply won't be able to keep up.

The West Virginia Mountaineers travel to Kansas to play the Jayhawks. The Mountaineers are favored by 21 points. I normally try and stay away from road favorites, but this game is an exception. The Jayhawks have one of the worst defenses in the country. They are the #230 ranked defense in points per game allowed.

After an opening week loss to Virginia Tech, the Mountaineers put up 56 and 59 points in their next 2 games. They will load up again against the Jayhawks. Quarterback Will Grier is averaging 342 yards per game and has thrown 11 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. They are also running the ball well as Justin Crawford is averaging 108 yards per game on the ground. West Virginia has a BYE next week so they won't take their foot off the gas against Kansas.

In a dangerous road test, the #4 Penn State Nittany Lions head to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the 3-0 Hawkeyes. Penn State is favored by 12.5 points as these undefeated Big Ten teams open up conference play. Iowa has a knack for ruining Penn State's season as they have crushed their hopes multiple times over the last 10
Years when it looked like Penn State was making a run at the National Championship.

But I am not concerned with the point spread in this game. I'm interested in the over/under 52. That number is a bit high for a Big Ten game that will feature 2 strong running games. But the Iowa defense is brutal this year. And the Penn State offense is loaded with talent. Running back Saquon Barkley is the best in the country. And Quarterback Trace McSorley is having a great year with 9 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. His favorite target in the red zone is Tight End Mike Gesicki who has caught 5 touchdowns and will be a first round draft pick in the NFL. This game is going to cruise past the over 52 points.
