It turns out that a player like Fernando Llorente isn’t completely finished as a striker.

He turned up his style for Tottenham Hotspurs last night when the team hammered League Two side, Tranmere 7 – 0 nil, to record the highest away win in the club’s history. The 33 year old Spaniard, who has largely been a bench-warmer and a spectator since making a switch from Swansea City to Tottenham Hotspurs in 2017, was superb last night.

He was starting for Mauricio Pochettino’s side for only the second time this season, and he slammed 3 goals past Tranmere in 24 minutes of the second-half, during the encounter. The first of his goals was assisted by Son Heung-min who did a stylish cut-back for Llorente to turn in for Tottenham’s second goal, but Fernando Llorente’s first.

Serge Aurier had scored for Tottenham just before half-time, for the only goal of the first-half.

But the Londers switched up the gear in the second half, as they put 6 more goals against their hapless League Two opposition. Fernando’s second goal, but Tottenham’s fifth goal on the night, came off Oliver Skipp’s pass; and the former Athletic Blibao stirker did well to slide the ball under Tranmere’s Scott Davies.

About one minute later after his second goal, Fernando Llorente completed his hat-trick, by poking into the net from a smart cross from teammate, Lucas Moura. Soon after, the hat trick hero was replaced by teammate Harry Kane, who scored Spurs’ 7th goal in the 82nd minute of the match with a lovely chip over Tranmere’s goalie, Davies, for the resounding victory.

In between Llorente’s first and second goals, Serge Aurier had got himself a second, and Son Heung-min scored his first and only of the night too via a superb solo run. Harry Kane’s goal on the night put him on level footing with Tottenhams Hotspurs’ fourth-placed highest goalscorer, Cliff Jones, with 159 goals.

Tranmere had been hoping to change their fortune in the competition by reaching the 4th round which they had last reached in the 2003-2004 season, however they met a Spurs side that meant business on the night.

They had just one significant opportunity to hurt Spurs, when they were 2 goals down, however, Harvey Gilmour’s shot from a long throw was blocked, and the hardly troubled Tottenham for the rest of the game.

Tottenham’s victory now sees them qualify for the 4th round of the FA Cup, as one of the Premier Leagues top teams at this stage of the competition. Thank you for following @steemsports and you can find me @rickie
