Jon Gruden to be Named Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have found their man and are expected to announce in a press conference on Tuesday that Jon Gruden will once again be their head coach. The deal is reportedly the longest coaching deal in NFL history as well as the richest at 10 years and $100 Million. Gruden has spent the last decade as an announcer for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

Gruden originally coached the Raiders back in 1998-2001. He led the team to first place finishes in the AFC West in 2000 and 2001. But he bolted for the warm weather and sun in Tampa Bay to coach the Bucs. He would win a Super Bowl in Tampa in his first year after going 12-4 in the regular season while winning the NFC South. But the next several years were extremely inconsistent and Gruden was done in 2008.

His move to the broadcast booth was a seamless one. Gruden quickly became a fan favorite and was by far the most knowledgeable commentator on television. He would also do quarterback camps with the best college QBs as they would prepare for the NFL draft. You could always tell that the coaching bug was still in him and it seemed like it was only a matter of time.

The perfect storm was formed this year as an Oakland Raider team was loaded with talent but massively under performed. They have their franchise quarterback in Derrick Carr who will be the most talented QB that Gruden has had the chance to be the Head Coach for. The have their franchise receiver in Amari Cooper. And they have plenty of good draft picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. Not to mention the move from Oakland to Las Vegas will be here in one more year. They have broke ground on the new Las Vegas Raiders stadium that is going to be one of the best facilities in the world.
