NBA Finals Game 2 Recap: The Warriors Outscored The Cavaliers, Once Again...

<hr>
<h1><center>Final Score: Warriors 132-113 Cavaliers</center></h1>
<hr>
<H1><CENTER>MVP: Stephen Curry, despite an awful lot of turnovers.</CENTER></H1>
<hr>
Other notable players: Durant (a go-to guy when you need to score), LeBron James (just another monstrous triple-double game), Klay Thomspon (best game in this year's playoffs), Kevin Love (he finally shined with 27 points)
<hr>
The loser of the match: Kyrie Irving. The Cavs stand no chance to win if Irving plays like that for the rest of the series. He was a blank space.
<hr>
The reserve player who could change the series: Kyle Korver. The Cavaliers signed Korver to shoot three-pointers and stretch the defense. He has done nothing so far. The man can shoot seven three-pointers alone on a good day, and that good day must come if the Cavs want to lift the trophy again.
<hr>
The Golden State Warriors came into the second match as the clear favorites to increase their lead to 2-0. And, loyal fans (and thousands of band-wagoners) expected nothing but a win from Curry, Durant, and the rest of the crew. On top of that, the Golden State Warriors received some extra emotional pump as Coach Steve Kerr finally joined the team on the floor after his health problems.
<hr>
On the other side of the floor, the Cleveland Cavaliers came into the second game after the terrible first game, which they lost 113-91. The only player who at least tried to win the first game was LeBron James (surprise surprise), and we could see from the first seconds of the second game that LeBron was not in the mood of losing. After all, he won all of his rings after losing the first game of the finals, so he knows how to pull a comeback. And yet, without any support, even LeBron James, the best player in the world, cannot defeat Warriors.
<hr>
<center><H1>First Quarter</H1></center>
<hr>
Even though the Golden State Warriors scored 40 points in the first quarter, we could see how much the Cleveland Cavaliers improved defensively after the first game. Yes, the Cavs made some stupid fouls (Curry shot ten free throws just in the first quarter), but they were much more aggressive and did not allow any free shots/dunks. On top of that, the Cavaliers attacked with more energy as well. They scored 34 points, shooting extremely well. Kevin Love was an x-factor of the first quarter and the whole game for Cavaliers as he started scoring from the first minute. Kevin's jump shots kept the Cavs in the game in the first quarter, and it seemed as if the Cavs made some adjustments coming into the second game.
<hr>
Of course, LeBron James was dominating the game as always, and I could talk a lot about how he is the best player in the world at the moment, but it is not one player's game. Kyrie Irving disappointed me from the first minute as his efforts to score ended up as failures most of the time.
<hr>
Durant and Curry were main guys when it came to scoring for the GSW, but we must mention Klay Thompson. He made a couple of shots early in the game, and it was clear that he might, at last, make some impact on the offensive end. That said, his defense on Irving and other guys was spectacular throughout the playoffs, so we cannot say that Thompson was not living up to the expectation before the second game. It is just that with Durant, Thomspon's role on the offensive end has become very limited. And yet, he shined on the first quarter.
<hr>
<h1><center>Second Quarter</center></h1>
<hr>
Nothing much changed and both teams were playing some fast paced basketball again. Of course, we would not expect both teams to score 74 points per quarter again, but the trend continued. The only notable thing is that the Cavaliers stopped making stupid fouls and that helped them to win the quarter by 3 points and cut the deficit to 3 before the half time.
<hr>
Sadly, we could feel how much LeBron James means to this Cavalier's team at the beginning of the second quarter. LeBron sat to rest for a couple of minutes and the Cavs looked like disabled for those minutes. They could not make any good shots, and the defense struggled as well. The Cavs will have to figure out how to play without LeBron if they want to win the trophy because that man is not a robot and we can see already that he is getting tired.
<hr>
<h1><center>Third Quarter</center></h1>
<hr>
This quarter was the decisive one. The Golden State Warriors continued playing as they did before the half time with a lot of energy and pace, while the Cavaliers looked exhausted. Also, the Cavs only made 9/26 FGs in the third quarter (compared to 13/25 and 12/25 in first to quarters) and that killed them. It did not only mean that the Cavs couldn't score, but it also meant that they had no time to get back to the defense. Golden State Warriors passed the ball faster than the Cavs could run after the missed shot and that resulted in too many easy points. I mean, Warriors made 6/14 three-pointers just in the third quarter, and that explains it all.
<hr>
What was the main reason why Warriors won the third quarter by 11 points? I would say LeBron Jame's exhaustion. It looked like he left half of his energy in the locker room as he could not keep up with the pace of the game. And we all know that if LeBron James struggles against GSW, Cavs have close to zero chance to win the game. That is what happened. Also, Durant, Curry, and Thompson cold-bloodedly punished Cavs for their mistakes. That 4 minutes stretch by the end of the quarter, when Cavs scored 0 points, finished the game.
<hr>
<H1><CENTER>Fourth Quarter</CENTER></H1>
<HR>
Even though the Cavaliers still tried to show some signs of a comeback, it just wasn't there. The Golden State Warriors killed any hope that the Cavs' fans might have had with some crazy three-pointers from the locker room. The game was over 5 minutes into the final quarter. Soon enough LeBron James sat on the bench, and it was clear that Cavs capitulated. The reserve players had a chance to finish the game just to be able to tell their grandkids that they scored some points in NBA superfinals back in the day... points which meant nothing.
<HR>
<CENTER><H1>What Do The Warriors Have To Do To Win The Series?</H1></CENTER>
<HR>
GSW just have to keep on going. They are 14-0 in the NBA playoffs this season, and I can see no reason why they would not be able to finish 16-0. Yes, last year they tanked after controlling the Superfinal 3-1, but they didn't have Kevin Durant on their team. That man is a game changer. Whenever GSW cannot execute their offensive plan, they just give the ball to Durant and let him do the magic. As easy as that. On top of that, Durant improved defensively this year, so he is unstoppable now.
<hr>
<CENTER><H1>What Will The Cavaliers Have To Do To Win The Series?</H1></CENTER>
<HR>
First of all, the Cavs must take one step at the time from this point of the series. Yes, they are down 2-0, but they were also down 2-0 last year, and they managed to win. I have already talked about how different GSW is as a team this season, but the Cavs improved as well. LeBron James is playing the best basketball of his career (arguably), and he has stronger support (Kyle Korver, for instance) than last year. That said, the Cavaliers must start using all of their reserves:
<hr>
1. Kyrie Irving must be more aggressive and take more responsibilities, especially on the offensive end of the floor. That would give LeBron some space and also... Irving is a world-class player, and when he plays at his best, it is impossible to stop him.
<hr>
2. The Cavs need to make more three-pointers. They are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league, but they fail to capitalize this strength against GSW's defense. If Cavs want to win, Kyle Korver will have to start making those damn shots. He was brought from Atlanta to do that... only that. "You had one job, Kyle."
<hr>
3. Thompson can play much better than he did in the first two games. GSW have no big guys in the paint and the Cavs must use it as their strength.
<hr>
4. Luck, the Cavs will need a lot of luck.
<hr>

Next to Kyrie definitely mentionable J. R. Smith! What a sad performance...

Super detailed! I see the Cavs showin' up next game. You're spot on about Korver though.

Super tough to defend that all-star roster. Curry lookin' hungry out there. I'm interested to see if Thompson sticks around on that team for much longer, he's too good to be a secondary player.
