The San Antonio Spurs has been a successful franchise over the last two decades. They have always been a sure playoff team and one of the strongest championship contender all throughout the past decades. But after decades of their impressive streak and great run, it looks like it was coming to an end after this season. They showed signs of slowing down this season after being down on 10th place in the Western Conference for quite some time. The Spurs managed to get up and climb to the 6th place but even if they make the playoffs this season, it feels like their dominating years has come to an end. The Spurs are a team that doesn’t make a lot of noise in the off-season, they are a kind of franchise that doesn’t make a lot of roster changes, but now we’re going to take a look at the moves that the Spurs should make this off-season.

The Spurs should get younger. They currently have 7 players who are 29 years old or older. Some of them are close to 40 years of age. Even though they can still play good basketball, they are having a hard time to adapt to the modern NBA. As father time approaches, their skills become limited. Their bodies are slowing down and it’s time for them to let the young guys carry the load. Let them be the mentors for the young ballers. With Pau Gasol and Manu Ginobili most likely to retire after the end of the season, San Antonio needs to land at least a couple of young talent that will fit Coach Popovich’s system to strengthen their squad.

<hr>
They must extend Tony Parker. Tony Parker has been one of the greatest players in the franchise of San Antonio Spurs. He was a proven veteran that can run the floor and be the leader of the team. The team still needs his leadership and his experience. He can still be an effective player off the bench for the Spurs. Coming from an injury, Parker played well off the bench against less talented defenders. Parker accepted the bench role and a fewer minutes of play. Before he call it quits and end a remarkable career, he can be a great mentor for Dejounte Murray and make him the future point guard of the team.

The Spurs must trade Rudy Gay and Danny Green. They are both entering the last year of their deals if they pick their option during the off-season. They are a proven veteran and their defensive ability and good shooting range makes them very valuable to the team and fits to Popovich’s system very well. Being valuable assets, San Antonio should deal them for some picks or a couple of young ballers to build a young team around Kawhi Leonard. One player that would fit to Popovich’s system is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. He’s also a great 3-point shooter and a defensive specialist. He is a very intelligent player. The Spurs must try to pursue him. It is also a great opportunity for him to find a home and a contender.

While we appreciate your opinion being stuck out there for all of us to laud or criticize, we couldn't disagree more: Paul Gasol is still playing great basketball, and without him this Kawhi-less team wouldn't make the playoffs. Ginobili is still producing in every way, off the bench, which is where SA should keep him if they have ANY class whatsoever. Hell, Tim Duncan should still be starting for this team, and the fact he's gone makes us wonder if San Antonio is such a great organization, or instead Tim Slam Duncan is one of the most underrated players since Bill Russell.

If ANYONE needs to retire, it's Tony Parker. Sure, he was once great, but due to injury he's just hurting the team more than helping it out there. If he and SA had any sense, he'd relegate himself to the bench along with Ginobili.

Wanna punt for the night?
