That's also a plus. No oil, coolant, spark plugs etc to need replacing. I hope we will see some breakthroughs in battery performance and price as this is a large part of the cost. At some point they could be cheaper than a conventional car.

I'd love an electric car for my next one too but I live in a rented apartment and until I can get access to a charging point I'll have to wait. :( For me the best option at the moment is the leaf. It's an electric car designed from the ground up to be an electric car. Most of the others are just modified petrol cars. With the exception of Tesla of course but that's must out of the price range completely. Maybe when the model 3 gets released :)

I think a few of the newer models are being designed from scratch. The Jaguar is. They need to be to accommodate large batteries. I would hope there will be ways to charge for people in apartments too. That could be built into parking spaces without cables (inductive charging) and activated by something in the car.
