What's shocking is that it hasn't been talked about until recently. We knew about the [ocean garbage patches](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_garbage_patch), but a lot of the plastic is in tiny pieces being eaten by every creature.

It's is weird because it seems like a problem that could be easily solved through deploying machines to collect the plastic, it seems almost criminal that it has not happened already.

It it is true we have to discused sone other topic like this. Only crypto is not a world part of this world. We always need to use a thing which is recyleable so producting of new will be reduce and recycle things will get againg use in less cost so it can save money as well.

Yeah thats for sure it is not a problem steevc . Definatly BTC is you are telling might be in terms of using electricity it is not good. But as we can check history od decentralization is started with BTC so we have to consider it as a mother of crypto. Definatly when nakamoto created BTC he didnt aware about this crypto world will become boom but then after to over come this problem POS crypto has beed started but original founder of this crypto we can not denied he given ths start point idea of this world crypto.

I am shocked... there's something more important to talk about than the price of steem?

I never understood the climate change deniers. Regardless of the long term damage, it doesn't make any logical sense to work in a way that continues to increase pollution, which does have a real and present danger for health.

As for the new government policies, I wouldn't trust much of what this shambles of a conservative government says. They are the same people who are in bed with fracking companies.

David Cameron made an attempt to re-brand them with his green tree logo, but all they seem to be interested in is disaster capitalism.

My wife and I have about three times as many recycling bins as the rest of our neighborhood because we use them so much.  It is pretty common for us to have three or four out by the road when everyone else has just one.  I don't really mind it and it feels good knowing that I am doing something to help out.  I know the big push now is to reduce more than recycle though.  Maybe one day that will become as normal as recycling.

After living in the incredibly environmentally conscious San Francisco area, I was shocked when I moved to NM to discover that there is no recycling service available. There is a recycling center, so you can take your plastic, aluminum and glass there, but no compost and cardboard goes in the trash. There is no pickup with trash for any of it. I'm used to 3 bins, garbage, compost and recycling. Nope. I asked why and they said there wasn't enough demand for it to make it cost effective to provide the extra bin pickup with trash service.

I haven't heard anyone is. It's incredibly annoying though. At least there is lots of solar adoption here, though the main electric co-op still gets most of its electric from coal. 

Things are far behind the cities in the rural areas like this.

Now this is a topic we all need to embrace, it's not hard to understand that the choices we make now will have a massive impact on future generations - not just our own children but their children and going on...

Plastic waste is the worst, it will not degrade and affects so many delicate ecosystems throughout the world - just recycling is not solving the issue - changing our way of life from using plastics that will not degrade has to be a life change from all. Packaging, in any form has to move toward being biodegradable and compostable - just being recyclable does not cut it - many recyclable items need special processing that it never sees - and so just ends up in land fill anyway.

Replacing plastics with PLA - polylactic acid which has similar properties but will Biodegrade has to be a priority, in my own business we now supply a wide range of disposable cups for hot and cold drinks that are PLA based and have the same qualities as traditional disposables but will still naturally break down in the environment.

We have a choice to right now to do something for our children, it might not make a difference in our life time - but if your care for the special people in your own lives the change needs to happen now so the benefit will live on long after we do.

My wife has been working with a small recycling project, building the machines from https://preciousplastic.com/ and designing new things with it. But the real result is that we have realised how almost impossible it is to sort and reuse plastic.

So now we have removed as much plastic from our household as possible: wipes is now cotton, dish brush is now made from wood and natural brushes etc. The food we buy is still mostly in plastic and we do have a very good recycling system here in Denmark, but even so... Plastic is an incredible and useful material, but the only efficient way of reusing it is burning it and it is made from fossil fuels.

Anthropogenic climate change is a made up religion, please do some research. 

A good place to start is the YouTube channel called adapt2030.

You will actually find that according to sat data, the earth has been cooling for the last few years as we have entering something called the eddy minimum.

The UK is still YEARS ahead of the US. We only just got recycle bins in my small village on the cape and it's by town, so not all towns provide them and at the house I mostly live in, Toad Hall, we have to do it all ourselves pay extra for everything! 

Here I am impresed with all our bins. True we had to buy them from the council (another thing I wish the USA had, the council...but that is a post in and of itself) I was just so impressed with the various bins. 

I try to be pretty low waste. I mostly eat fresh veg now as part of my diet so all my 'waste' goes into our own garden compost out in the back garden. Unfortunately, some of my veg comes in plastic, when I can't get to the green grocer or hawkers in town to buy it without a plastic bag. 

I eat mainly local meat when I am in the UK another luxury I wish we had in USA as cheap as here, here I can buy pheasant and vennison for pennies back in USA it's VERY expensive and conidered luxury. Also here in the South East, we have so many great local farms that source and sell their own properly raised animals and eggs, and you just stop in and get it in your own bag. I also save the little styrofoam things from my sausage and meat from the local farm and wash them and return them to them to use again, of course there is still some shrink wrap, just the name of the game I suppose.

I saw in London a grocery store that just opened that is attempting 100% NO plastic in the shop! I hope a think like that could catch on.

We're seeing some good initiatives lately, but why didn't this happen earlier.

We compost a lot and produce eggs and veg ourselves to some extent. We get a weekly veg box that uses minimal packaging and is partly locally sourced. These things have a penalty in cost and effort, but we should be doing what we can.

Many of the solutions is being tested here in Copenhagen and I think that the bio waste solution is one of the most efficient.

You have of course for some time been able to deliver the bio waste at the waste stations that is all over Denmark, but since last year the waste have been collected directly from peoples home. It has been a great success and I think that the commune has been very good at communicating about how to to it and what the results are. We get a folder quarterly with news, advice and results.

Yes, that is a thing that has interested us a lot too here in my family. Farming of insects. The perfect way to transform food vaste to clean protein. I wouldn't use flies though. Som kind of beetle that can not fly is preferred as they do not escape as easily. Due to old hygienic rules it is illegal in Denmark to farm insects, but today it is possible to do it in without any danger.

Soya beans are, like rice and palm oil, great polluters so it would make a lot of sense to feed pigs and chicken with insects. Part of their natural diet.
