Art With A Four Year Old 🌀🎨👦 Spark your creativity!

I was keeping my grandkids yesterday and after I put his baby sister down for a nap, I came downstairs and my grandson informed me that he had gotten out some art materials for us. He had some styrofoam packaging, empty water bottles and popsicle sticks and markers. After I had suggested some ways to put them together into a creation, he came up with his own way to do it which he called a bridge. Then he wanted to draw. He mostly likes to just take a whole hand full of markers and scribble on every page of his sketch book. Of course it is always more fun if you stand squat on the table in the middle of your art supplies. Then he wanted me to draw something so I drew a boat on the ocean. So then he drew his own boat. I think that it must be an overhead view.

Notice the flags on top. He was all about the flags. Then we changed the drawing with my Prisma app on my phone.

I am hesitant to direct his drawing at this point because I want to see how his vision for perspective and form develope on his own. Soon though I might take him through some instruction in how to see shapes and represent them.

I did my own drawing while he was busy scribbling. It was a little fantasy forest with some mushroom houses for mice and other small forest creatures. There was a large door in the center and I asked him who lived in that house. I told him that I needed to know so that I could make a story about it. At first he said he didn’t know, but when I asked him before I left he said that he lived in there. Wow! Why didn’t I think of that? Creating with children can certainly help to spark your creativity.
