Has The Steemit HardFork Started Yet And Is It Affecting Post Visibility? I No Longer Get Views On My Posts!

<p><strong>* Really, how do people get invited to conversations on steemit?</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;There are many things to say and many things to learn. <strong>FAQS can't cover everything, moreover, steemit is a learning journey and questions come on the go or are triggered by something seen from a new post, how do we solve the learning process on steem and especially for the noobs?</strong> Most times, i do a post to enlist my questions but there isn't any real way of engaging others as they may not even see my post. On other social media, it may be possible to mention a user by their @username and i do feel many people, who post on steemit feel this feature exists to work; that they write open-ended posts and mention users, that they intend to have interact or join the conversation or give feedback so to speak, but little do they know that the mentioned user isn't notified. Posts having questions and especially for the development of steemit, should not be let to pass and get lost forever, because there is no real way to engage others. This post should be given value! &nbsp;I don't know what functionality, will fix this but i think to a large extent that the ability to tag or mention people on steemit, will fix a lot of issues and especially improve the learning curve and improve interaction!&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>* Has the hardfork taken effect yet and does this affect post visibility</strong>? For the last few days, the highest views i have had on my 5 or 6 posts is 1 view. Did something happen. Have i faltered somehow or is the hardfork in effect? <strong>Did the algorithm for how posts are distributed changed since hardfork and if it did; what adjustments do we need to make?</strong></p>

<p>* Many times, i am not sure exactly, if i am allowed to post yet. My post says '<strong>yesterday</strong>'. I hover the cursor over the post, where it says '<strong>yesterday'</strong> and it shows the time when the post was made and shows that the time has elapsed. I am thinking, i am now eligible to post but when i click on the payout button; i may find "<strong>payout in the next 37 minutes</strong>". <strong>Does this mean i can't post yet</strong>? <strong>Do i have to wait till payout is done before i can post again?</strong> &nbsp;(<em>I AM TALKING OF CASES, WHERE YOU HAVE DONE YOUR 4 POSTS AND TRYING TO DETERMINE IF 24 HOURS HAVE ELAPSED AND IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO POST AGAIN.)</em></p>
<p>I pose this question because i don't know what to really follow. The <a href="http://steemdollar.com/limitstatus.php?name=steemit"><strong>steemit tool</strong></a> for this doesn't appear to work. When i believe i am eligible to post, as all my posts on my blog says '<strong>yesterday</strong>'; the tool still tells me i am ineligible to post.</p>

<p>* <strong>What is the true penalty if you have made an error and post more than 4 posts posts within a 24 hour period?</strong></p>

<p>* OVERALL, <strong>many of the tangible information get lost in the comments and may never get seen because the original post never got much visibility; how do we solve this? How do we bring comments to life?</strong></p>

<p>Personally, I believe the "promote" aspect should be re-vamped. My solution is as follows: &nbsp;</p>
<ol>
  <li>Nix the "Promoted" tab. Truly, few actually peruse there. I believe promotions should happen in the "Feed" tab.</li>
  <li>An article becomes promoted by paying steem dollars (SD or SBD) as is currently.</li>
  <li>An article is promoted one hour for each steem dollar paid. (1 SD = 1 hour)</li>
  <li>The promotion result is the article remains at the top of the "Feed" tab for the amount of time paid.</li>
  <li>The FIFO (First-IN-First-Out) rule should apply. For instance: &nbsp;Article A is promoted at 8 am for 5 SD. This article shall remain at the &nbsp;top of the Feed tab for 5 hours.<br>
Article B has been promoted at 8:03 for 2 hours. It shall be positioned just below Article A for the entire 2 hours.<br>
Article C has been promoted at 8:04 for 10 hours with a cost of 10 SD. &nbsp;It shall be positioned just below article &nbsp;B for 1 hour 59 minutes, then &nbsp;just below Article A for 2 hours 56 minutes, then enjoy the top &nbsp;position for the remaining 3 hours 55 minutes.<br>
I would suggest to also set limits such as, 'no post can be initially &nbsp;promoted for more than a certain number of hours,' and 're-promoting &nbsp;cannot be done until the expiration of the initial promotion, or after a &nbsp;waiting period of a specific number of hours.' This would allow other &nbsp;posts to rest at (or at least closer to) the top few positions for at &nbsp;least a while. If readers decide to promote, the promotion would occur &nbsp;concurrent with the current promotion. If the reader's promotion causes &nbsp;the posting time to be extended, so be it. Just make it so that the &nbsp;author cannot promote it again until the expiration of the initial &nbsp;promotion time (plus any reader's promotions). This way the post goes to &nbsp;the bottom of the posting section of the Feed. This should discourage &nbsp;spamming or repeated postings for extended periods of time.</li>
  <li>Ensure the 'promoted' section is segregated from the non-promoted &nbsp;section with a line and notice stating the end of promoted posts (in &nbsp;small print), or something similar (as &nbsp;the ads and actual articles are &nbsp;segregated on Google search.</li>
  <li>Allow only 2 promotions by the author per post, and only 1 or 2 &nbsp;promoted posts per author per month (or so). This should further &nbsp;discourage spamming of the posting section.<br>

<p>As &nbsp;simple as this. My thoughts are exactly as yours but how do we get our &nbsp;voice heard. Posts don't really get seen! like this post for instance; and the 'tag or mention method of <a href="https://steemit.com/@username">@username',</a> to invite people into a discussion doesn't work either; to have people &nbsp;invited to conversations for their feedback so what can we do at this point.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Important comments like yours get lost with posts that never get seen. I thought of using the 'promoted content' feature but like you said in your comment; &nbsp;the method of promotion here doesn't appear viable or it is mostly that i &nbsp;don't understand it. having promoted content in the feeds has very much &nbsp;more essence.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Let's &nbsp;say there are 1000 STEEM and 10 SBD. If you consider SBD as the &nbsp;blockchain's debt, then we have 1% debt. If somebody pays 1 SBD to &nbsp;promote a post, we now have 1000 STEEM and 9 SBD, so we now have 0.9% &nbsp;debt. The benefits of the reduction in debt are shared by everybody. The promoted ranking is based on the total amount used to promote, &nbsp;not number of people. So 10 SBD by 5 people is more than 5 SBD by one &nbsp;person</p>

As far as I know the hardfork has been completed successfully. I don't know if the current problems are the result of the hardfork or not. I do know other users have had similar complaints. People aren't get replies, notifications aren't working properly, follower counts are off, views aren't showing up etc... Things just aren't running smoothly lately. 

One thing I do know is that Steemit does seem to fix problems and upgrade the platform regularly. I'm sure things will work out sooner or later and many of your issues will be fixed. The site is in BETA  so things break, and get fixed.

hmmm nice to know really. it is discourage tho, i dont see any effect even tho i put effort to post. you comment was encouraging. in your case, did you make any adjustments, i mean in how many tags you use, how you post or when you post? do you know the answer to my question as regards knowing when you can now post. you know whn you dont want to exceed the 4 posts in a day. if all the recent posts on your blog says 'yesterday', is it already okay to post or do you have to wait it payout is completed?

I only use 4 tags, and I didn't know about the post limit. For the most part though I only make a few posts a week. I've been considering posting more though. Stay positive, I'm sure things will work out. New platforms are always glitchy in the beginning.

That is a good question, I believe you must wait until payout is completed. However you can post more than 4 times per day if you want. You just receive a penalty on rewards.

Well, the HF16 went through successfully however it did create issues with the display. For starters the number of people you show your following has been lower and this is being worked on, a couple days ago I heard there were issues with 4 or 5 tags on posts, on SteemIt, however if you go to Steemd.com it still has the correct number of followers. As for the post payout it is affected by a few issues, I made a post about 18 hours ago and I still have about 14 hours till it pays out, from what I read somewhere this has to do with the activity on the post, for example if someone resteems or comments or votes on the post it will add time to the post before the payout. I'm not completely sure how it works, but this is the best I can do in explaining what I have read here on SteemIt. I did read somewhere that the posts that are trending tend to have longer time before the payout is made for them.

Yep, I get you totally. But in your bits of points, I think you are closest to the answers. I wish I come across those actual posts that you read, perhaps reading you post will help. I am glad people try to write posts to pose questions for the benefit of others. IN thee same manner as you, I learn the small things I know about steemit, coming across posts. But do you know anything about the tagging or mention user feature not working? Is that like a bug or that is how steemit was created. I don't think people know that it isn't working. I see many posts where people require feedback thus they mention @username. I used to do that but figured that it doesn't work. Like the person that you mentioned doesn't get to know except you told him or he came across your post

True the @username gives others a direct link to that person, but it does not inform them they were mentioned as far as I know, @timcliff said by 1/1/2017 they should have a road map with new features they are working on posted to let others see where SteemIt is going.
The other features were working correctly before the HF16 was pushed, and from @good-karma with his work on eSteem he said there is a change in the way it is displayed. So for the eSteem app he said there should be an update by Monday or Tuesday. For the following list not displaying or the voting scale not working.

You make some really good points.  One of the ways of getting involved in conversations is Rocket Chat or Discord until we get some sort of built in messaging.  

The hard fork happened 6 days ago and should not have affected the number of people seeing your posts.  

There is a bug with following but that appears to be related to your viewing the number of people you are following yourself.  

Others can see the correct number and you can also view it using a blockchain tool like SteemDB.

I also agree that some changes could make the Promotion feature more effective.

If you use all 5 tags only the first one works and your post will only show up in the list for the first tag.  If you use 4 tags or less then they work as before.

Thank you for dropping by @thecryptofiend, I am glad. It is possible that hardfork may not have affect views but may be it affect visibility of posts cos the chance is too drastic. And it seem to tally with hardfork. I would usually get some views and even upvotes on many of my posts even I am not really earning. But the last few days, my posts stay stuck at like one view and much harder to see upvotes. The difference is just too drastic, that isn't why I started to wonder what have gone wrong. Even if earning stays at zero, it just encouraging to see some reaction in terms of reactions or views. And now it possible to see views count on the post itself and several of my post were stuck at one view and that is likely me. We'll see though! I will check out discord again. I have the app and I am on it. Is rocket chat steemit chat?

Yes Rocket chat is steemit chat.  There is a bug with tags where if you use all 5 your post will only show up in the first.  The solution for now is to use 4 tags or less.

Good questions.

A lot of these are things that they are planning to address with future changes. The development is to some extent just getting started. There are a lot of things "in the pipe". Steemit will be releasing their roadmap on or before 1/1/2017 - so we should have a better idea of what to expect soon.

Regarding the 4 posts in 24 hours, if you hover over the time that it says you posted, it will give you the exact timestamp of your post. If you go to the "New" page and look at the most recent post from someone - it will show you the current timestamp. You can use this to determine how many of your posts you have done in the last 24 hours.

Doing more than 4 in a 24 hour period is not a _huge_ deal - it just reduces the amount that you get paid out for your 5th, 6th, etc. posts. I'm not sure on the exact percentage of reduction though.

I do have many questions and I tell you many people do to. About the time stamp I was thinking, that should be right but recently with sudden change in views to my post, I was wondering what may have gone wrong and too, the tool was working and I waited for a long time after the 24 hours and tried the steemit app to check on if I can post and still kept saying no!
