We walked all the way to what I knew as the elementary school’s basketball court where there were now training dummies and targets everywhere.

*“I know you’re used to pressing buttons to cast spells, but in reality it doesn’t quite work that way. It will be hard at first, sure, but with sufficient practice you will get a hold of it in no time. I will teach you how to cast a fireball. Now, I want you to focus on that training dummy. Envision what you wish to do. Relax your body and just visualize casting a fireball. Once ready, your body will follow your mind. Take your time, we’re not in a hurry and remember, forget the body and just see it happen in your mind.”*

I looked at the training dummy and decided to focus right on the bullseye drawn on its belly button. I figured if I aimed for the center I was sure to at least hit its arm or leg. I locked my vision on that brown spot and pictured it engulfed in flames. After a while I blinked and lost focus. I looked toward Mugdul and he just hinted toward the dummy, silently telling me to try again.

I shook my limbs to try and relax best I could then focused on its head. I visualized it completely in flames as if it were burned at a stake. I could practically already see the flames when I felt my body move. Shortly after a fireball entered my field of vision and hit the dummy right in the head.

I was both surprised and excited when I watched the dummy burn.

*“Hell yeah! I did that!“*

Mugdul raised his hand and a very powerful wind extinguished the flames in an instant.

*“Again.”*

I sighed at the sight of the dummy now no longer in flames and decided to focus on its arm this time. I could tell I was a bit tired when I picked a spot on the wooden stick. I relaxed my body and pictured the dummy in flames just like the first time and before I knew it, another fireball went flying straight toward the dummy’s hand, shattering the wood in a thousand burning pieces.

I could feel myself start to breathe deeper and even sweat and I felt tired as if I had just ran a solid mile.

*“Now the other arm.”*

It was extremely hard to focus this time around. I couldn’t relax the way I did the last time. My breathing was out of control and I felt worn out. I tried my hardest and at last managed to cast the third fireball.

I fell to my knees with exhaustion and watched the fireball miss the dummy altogether.

*“Casting spells requires a certain amount of focus. During your training on Earth you used the term mana and once out of mana, you weren’t able to cast any spells before you replenished a sufficient amount. Focus works very similar to mana, but instead of it being a numeric value, it’s a feeling of fatigue. Casting too many spells in a short period of time will tire your mind as well as your body, causing each subsequent spell to be more difficult to cast and more imprecise, as you’ve just experienced yourself. Take a seat. Have you ever meditated?”*

I obliged and sat down on the floor still breathing and sweating heavily. I was too tired to answer so I only shook my head as an answer. 

Mugdul now began to talk very slowly with the most relaxing tone he could muster.

*“Close your eyes and empty your mind. Shift your focus to your breath and feel your body move with it. Imagine a coin above your navel and watch it move with your mind as you breathe.”*

I could feel my breath return to a normal breathing pace and my body relax and replenish its energy.

*“Meditating allows you to replenish your energy faster and be able to return to combat. Once you master it, it will also help heal your wounds faster. Eating and drinking will help you regain your energy faster. Stand up.”*

Just as I began to rise, Mugdul cast a fireball and set the training dummy ablaze.

*“Now put out the fire.”*

*“How?”* I asked him, completely puzzled.

*“Whichever way you want.”*
