“That could work.” James looked up the wall, crouched with his back toward it, leaned onto it, assuming a stable position and brought his hands together, interweaving the fingers. “Go check.”

Tom didn’t hesitate and placed his foot on James’ hands before he even finished his sentence, when all of a sudden they heard someone scream “Bill!”

“Yeah?” The guard from the room they wanted to enter shouted back. Tom immediately stepped down and they both leaned against the wall again and just listened closely.

“Have you seen Earl?” The distant voice spoke again.

James decided to risk taking a peek. The guard was standing up, irritated, and before he shouted back formed a simple megaphone with his hands to focus his voice in the direction of the other guard. “No! I thought he was with you!” The guard yelled back.

“He said he had to bring you something!”

“No! Hold on! I’m coming!” The guard sighed really loud. “Fucking shouting. Can’t hear shit.”

James, still peeking, saw the guard pick up his revolver from the table next to his seat, look around if he forgot anything, then right before he headed their way, James moved out of his field of vision and looked over to Tom.
