My reply to @mscleverclocks "The Goal: To End Slavery, An Introduction"
I stumbled across [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxbHHJN-0So) by @mscleverclocks. I ended up commenting on dTube in regards to how **natural law can apply to veganism.**
I believe natural law as well has many parallels with [Ayn Rands ideas](https://www.aynrand.org/ideas/overview). I don't think Ayn Rand got **everything** right, but generally find myself wondering if her 'haters' have really read her work because there's so much truth in it. But this is a whole topic in itself.

Although her excellent video doesn't 'directly' relate to veganism I left this substantial comment(see below) which I figured I'd just make into it's own post since it already borders on that anyways.

Just stumbled on your video thanks to @dollarvigilante. Subscribed to your channel and following ya on here now Anastasiya! Great stuff.
I must say, one thing I couldn't help but think of was that Natural Law could also be further 'extrapolated' into veganism... for example when you said at the beginning of your video that no being should force their views and/or actions onto another being I really resonated with that! And to me that means *all beings* that are sentient, not just human beings. It's a very '*speciesist*' viewpoint that humans can do as we please to just about any other species on the planet because we are 'superior' to them, more intelligent, yield more might, appeals to 'nature.' Such as pointing out that "well lions hunt to kill" or the "food chain" argument... Thing is, we're not wild lions, and actually, contrary to popular belief, we are not at the top of the food chain either. As humans we have a choice(well, the majority of us do, those of us who buy foods from restaurants and supermarkets) make a choice each time we put our dollars down. And yes, these choices are fuelled by information that society provides us, such as we **Need** animal products to stay healthy, eating and consuming animals and their secretions/ovulations/etc is **normal** and **necessary**... all things we learn growing up. But the paradigm is starting to shift.
In terms of natural law, many people would say that animals don't apply(once again negating their sentience, will to live, be free from harm, etc.) BUT that argument falls apart because animal agriculture is literally [destroying the planet ecologically](http://www.cowspiracy.com/facts/), and not just that, but actually impacting not only human health, impacting society and the world as a whole. So it's hard to say 'you do you' when we look at the broader implications of animal agriculture and given the fact that we can make food choices that don't cause as much 'ripple effect' in the grand scheme of things.
Pardon my tone in this comment if it ever sounded "preachy" or like I am assuming anything about anyone, or even come on your post and use it 'to my own ends.' I just want to inspire some thought in whoever might (still) be reading this! I know people can, pardon my language, **fucking hate those preachy-ass vegans** but god damnit, if it wasn't for some other people having spoken up I wouldn't be writing this trying to do the same for others. *Vegans are like adults: They're annoying, until you become one, and you realize they were right.* I never understood it but slowly my eyes were opened up to the point where I just did it and went vegan and like many many many others HAVE COME TO LOVE IT... it's such a 'small price' to pay. To quote Gary Francione, "It costs us so little to go vegan. It costs the animals so much if we don't. I feel great, have experienced so much joy from it, experienced so many new(AMAZING!) culinary horizons through it, met awesome people, deepened my understand of a lot of things, fostered empathy, feel like I am making a difference in my own life and in the world. I've made a [youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MebNvasqq0) video about it but it doesn't do it justice.

I'll leave this with a documentary if anyone is interested in any of this go watch [Earthlings](http://watchdocumentaries.com/earthlings/) which is *so good.* It's interesting that many meat-eaters who, while literally shoving their opinions(that they need meat) down their own throats, are able to happily, often gleefully, stomach that what they choose not to see. And say that vegans force their views on others. While literally forcing their opinions on others. Which is just hypocritical. BUT... having said all of this... I don't find myself superior to other people - I was once there as well. I realize I am one of *the lucky ones* to simply have made the connection. Vegans really don't think that they are superior to other people! In fact we realize, **we are NOT superior...** *to other living beings!* And we just see the benefit, like, in every realm there are benefits.... ***And we just want to shout it out to the whole fucking world!!!!!!!!!***

Great post. I feel as if even when you're not in over zealous vegan mode, your presence alone can put insecure meat eaters on the defensive sparking a preaching session you didn't see coming. I've almost gotten to the point where I'd rather just say that I don't eat animal flesh or secretions than label myself a vegan and take on the almost religious vibe the lifestyle has adopted in mainstream culture. The "holier than thou" and "convert all non believers" archetypes are prevalent, but posts like these bring much needed balance to the dynamic.

Thanks so much! Is food ever a TOUCHY, often awkward subject!!! And yes, totally get the whole defensiveness thing out of the blue as well. Veganism gets a lot of 'blowback' from the mainstream for sure. *Tee hee. Vegans are so crazy/extreme.* But yeah, fuck, first people ridicule the truth. Then they oppose it. Last, it becomes self evident. Seems like at least we're on the second stage of the process hehe.

Like is often said, the hardest part about being vegan isn't necessarily 'the diet' or like you had to 'sacrifice that much at all.' The hardest part is dealing with the darker side of people that will come up being vegan. And not necessarily even because of those 'awkward' times.... I can empathize with people who defend their views even though I don't agree and it's an awkward, awkward time, It's really seeing how callous/uncaring a small percentage of people are, in certain occasions where you get exposed to the 'darker' side of people...

It reminds me of that scene in The Matrix(*The Meatrix?*) where Morpeus states "**You have to understand. Most people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured and so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.**" Hmm yes, seems familiar 🤔

I like what James Aspey said, that people aren't our enemies and if someone is really really really stuck up on something, like those people with 'axes to grind' then it's just easier to move on. There's like so many people that are actually receptive out there it's really encouraging sometimes the positive receptions actually has been really amazing and affirming. Thankfully we're figuring out effective ways of spreading the message... in non-dogmatic, non-preachy ways! Never a perfect process though, sometimes it's insanely hard to stay calm, there's a seemingly *endless* amount of mis-info, lies, distortions, manipulations, half-truths to go against but thats life I guess, nothing worth doing is easy! ;) Thanks for the support! 🙌

Vegans obviously don't care about the animals killed in the agricultural industry. They obviously don't care about the suffering and deaths of those animals. They just make an arbitrary moral line in the sand about it being bad to kill certain animals, yet not others. So in that regard, they are no different than any one else.

How is it that vegans make a line in the sand about killing certain animals and not others? I'm pretty sure thats exactly what 'the rest' of society does when they value dogs and cats, etc. but not pigs, chickens and cows, etc. The whole point is caring about animals and it's completely different than 'anyone else' who just eats 'whatever.' You can't say that vegans are causing more suffering than carnists. Prove it.

The point is that vegans cause the death and suffering of animals by their lifestyle choice.  Many, many animals are maimed and killed in horrific ways during the cultivation of crops. Yet, they feel somehow morally superior while ignoring all the suffering that they don't care about. I agree that every society draws a line on which animals they don't want to suffer.  I am just pointing out, that vegans are no better just because they love cows as much as they love puppy dogs.
