The title of my book says it all: Anything Worth Doing Takes Time. In this book I've tried to make the case that you can't achieve anything worthwhile without taking the time to do it. After all, wouldn't you want to have a great big house, the best car, the perfect job, or the perfect life, right? So would I. In fact, I would go so far as to say that anything worthwhile is worth doing right.

Now then, I know what you're probably thinking-- "Well, how can I know that if I haven't done anything worth doing?" After all, wouldn't you have to spend your whole life working at it, right? Wrong. I believe you could achieve great things by applying yourself consistently and dedicating the time necessary to succeed.

I'll give you a personal example from my own life. I was married for 25 years before I began my research into spirituality and eventually became a spiritually aware woman. Even though we were very poor financially, I was able to keep our family strong and healthy. We even had health insurance! If anything worthwhile takes time and energy, it's making sure your family is well taken care of.

How did you do that? By dedicating the time necessary to be good to my spouse, kids, parents, friends, and especially to those around me? I've heard the saying, "The best things in life are not free." But that's not true in this case. I've found that doing the right thing gets rewarded.

For example, it took me some time to properly raise my children. I didn't have to work at it, and my time wasn't strained at work. That allowed me to be home with them when I wanted to be with them. I was able to spend quality time with my spouse and kids, without sacrificing everything else in my life.

It took some time to become an artist. It took me a while to find my voice, but now I'm sharing my artwork with others who need a good sounding board and someone to relate to. My voice isn't in demand, so I shared my artwork with people who wanted to learn more about me and what I was doing. As a result, they became inspired and were able to do the same thing. I didn't have to be an overnight success; it took me some time, but I found my way and that allowed me to flourish in my career.

It took me some time to get financially stable. My husband saved my income, but it never seemed like enough. I struggled for a while, but then I found the courage to start again, and that allowed me to prosper financially. I didn't have to accept anything less than what I deserved, and I continue to work hard for what I want and deserve. I worked hard to make myself into the person I am today because I knew that I deserved it and that was a kinder way to live than to keep hoping for a different person.

I don't know if I ever will find my way back into the groove of life that I used to find myself in before my addiction. I really don't think so, but I have to believe that if I can overcome this one challenge, I could certainly get past anything else. I am now on the road to recovery, and I am so proud of my journey. Anything worthwhile has a little hard work involved in its discovery, but I am on my way.
