Attention to detail

These are some macro pictures of a common forest plant in this region and many northern hemisphere areas, Lily of the Valley. It has a tiny white bell-shaped flower and smells lovely. It is highly poisonous. It has some 38 Cardiac glycosides within it that change heart rhythms enough to cause heart attacks as well as other toxic components that will cause nausea and vomiting and all kinds of other issues. Something so small, delicate and pretty, can be deadly.

I have always found chemistry interesting even though I was terrible at it at school. What I find quite amazing is that even slight changes or combinations in chemical makeup can cause what is harmless to become dangerous or neutralize what is dangerous and make it benign. I also find it incredible how the human nose can tell the difference between scents that vary in compound by one atom.

Small variations and changes can obviously have drastic effects on the environment and of course, all things within that environment. Some changes however are very subtle, barely perceptible but start ripples that impact on adjacent factors and slightly shift their course. Although insignificant at the time, these can grow into very large interactions over time.

This is also the same with very large events that explode within the environment because the epicenter becomes an overwhelming focus but sets off so many chain reactions in all directions that it is impossible to track them all, let alone how they all each interact dynamically with each other. Uncountable vibrations that bounce through and across time affecting everything they touch in some way. This is a massive amount of complexity and is impossible to accurately predict because there is no way to get a complete makeup of all of the compounds involved or how if slightly changed, something safe can become toxic and vice versa.

Everything is affected but we as sentient beings with advancing technologies have the ability to both read and intentionally impact upon our environment to create our own ripples and results. It is a superpower as few animals have much past instinct level capabilities to alter their world.

On top of this, we have imaginations that are able to look into the future using the knowledge and skills we currently hold and mentally create a world view to aim for through our changes. Once we have focus, rarely do we think about the indications and implications of whatever move we make impactin upon our environment and, all things within it.

Of course, we are starting to understand how greatly we can effect this world and in many ways, it has been negatively if we consider that our species is only capable of living in a narrow band of experience, a very narrow band of chemical compounds. Change the air slightly we suffocate, pollute the water and food supply and we get ill or starve, release the wrong energy and we are cooked by radiation.

It is very easy to see the large headline events in this world and focus our attentions on them but, the real threats to our current ways of life aren't in those areas, it is in the subtle steps that make the ripples, the things that the average person disregards.

We worry about losing jobs to foreigners but, nearly all jobs will be lost to automation. We worry about introduced religious doctrine and cultural habits affecting our societies and communities but the largest changes will come through environmental forces. We spend our time arguing over sports teams, while nuclear threat increases.

We spend our time on where our attention is pulled while what is actually going to affect us sails free under the radars. How much of this attention deficit on relevance is by design, engineered to keep us watching the hands of the magician while the assistant performs the tasks that later become magic to our eyes?

Small changes can have the largest impacts. *Positively and negatively.* Are we paying attention yet?

We are all guilty of not paying attention to what is going on around us. It is easier and emotionally safer to remain ignorant, and so we do. As a race, I am afraid that the present path we are taking is not really where we want to end up. Like the old saying goes, sooner or later we will experience the "straw that broke the camel's back"

It feels that we are stucked we have so many things running continuously in our mind that we are unable to prioritize our attention that what should we do know what should we think know it's working like an automated system.
Suppose you are sitting on couch thinking about solving a thing and a new problems is there.  Then either you will leave the previous topic and start thinking about it or you will think about both of them. We don't see small changed in our surroundings our lives are very confused take a pause and notice how much unnecessary thought we always have

Each of us has a ripple effect on each other. We don't know how much or how little impact we have, but it is there building the great tapestry of this world.  In a way it's exciting but along with excitement comes a great deal of responsibility.  We should strive to leave a positive impact on others.  Often it's the little innuendos that have the greatest influence.  And one must be especially alert to how you influence children as they are our tomorrow.  We must strive not to have a poisonous effect has your example with the lily so eloquently expressed.  Thanks my friend for your commentary on such a needed subject.

I think it is more of a human brain function that tries to omit all of the information available in order to proceed in life without regards to these things.  Also, think thay many think that when these situations arise they will have time to adapt and change or leave it to future generations to solve.  The thought of “Carpe Diem” comes to mind as well as many look at life that way.  Interesting concepts but human nature is never rational.
