Why do you support who you do?
How many chances does someone get in this life, how many should they get? How many times can someone be told and then say they 'didn't know' before they get labelled untrustworthy? How long can a community put up with them when they have done all in their power to help only to find that the help provided was *again* used poorly? When does an addict get cut off?

![wrecked (1 of 1).jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1521289582/skm9hkqa7dnmyimkfgj3.jpg)

I was watching a conversation before where someone was begging someone else for upvotes and asking why that person isn't supporting them anymore. This is a similar conversation I have watched from the same person maybe 4 weeks ago.

At that time, I called him on it as he was complaining about the drop in prices and how he hadn't been told how the platform worked. I called him on that because about 4 weeks before that, I had explained in detail exactly how the things he was now complaining about worked. This was about 4 weeks after he came onto the platform and got some advice and support on exactly the same issues again.

Today, someone else called him out for his begging behaviour and as I observed him raise his anger as he felt 'victimised', I decided to have a look at his wallet. Last time he was complaining, a few people supported him and he got a decent payout. 7 days later, it got taken off platform again.

There is nothing wrong with this as it is his earnings *except* that was exactly what he said he wasn't going to do *this time* as now he *'understood'* what was required for him to get what he wanted. People upvoted him on the assumption he had learned. Why would anyone trust when he seems to just say what is needed to get the support in the moment?

Now, it is his earnings but, he was supported under certain assumptions. People have invested a great deal of time and effort into helping him understand many things (literally hours) yet, his behaviour hasn't shifted. In my opinion, he should be cutoff like any addict otherwise we are enablers. This is the same for the link-droppers and spammers too. Enabling them isn't helping them, it is supporting their poor actions by being their crutch and in time, it will harm them, as well as us.

Yesterday I wrote a piece about long-term investors and users [pruning away the extractors](https://steemit.com/steemit/@tarazkp/the-thick-and-thin-prune-the-dead-wood) from our follow feeds and those who do not have community thinking in their approach. What would happen if people actually did this, would it change the platform? People do seem to notice when their support drops away but, do they consider why it drops away?

The community is actually relatively forgiving when it comes to poor behaviours but I wonder how forgiving we should be and, how many times one person can be forgiven. There are a few people who have repeatedly been caught in *heavily* compromising behaviours yet, they continue onto the next one supported. Am I missing something?

There is a certain amount of social proof required for a community to act as one so turning a blind eye means to lower the chance of response. What I have noticed though lately is that more and more people are waking up to these negative types of behaviours and speaking out against them. Is this a good thing? I think so.

The reason I think that speaking against negative behaviours is good is that it makes us think about our own behaviours and perhaps we can recognise aspects and adjust ourselves *before* we are acting similarly. Of course, it isn't always fun to think or read about yet, it may be necessary.

We all make various mistakes but if there is no cost to them and no cost in repeating them, why would we change? If we are witnessing others benefit from the same actions, why wouldn't we follow?

Almost without exception, we all want what is best for the platform in the long term so that we as individuals can benefit. What we do now is vital for that future but it is not only our behaviours that affect it as who and how we support the behaviours of others is just as important.

Do you ever ask yourself why you support who you do?

Most times we get one shot at everything, this life hardly gives extra points. But once a while we get a second chance and most times people who get it still misuse it. The way the market is behaving is disheartening but expected

If those people who are begging for votes spent an nth of the time creating some decent content then perhaps they would be earning their own. I've never been able to understand this behavior.

I wish people would look into the ones they follow a lot more. To see the ones that are truly invested, who dedicate their time for the growth of the platform and supported them more. Somehow it isn't the case. It does not surprise me though. It is human nature. The ones without shame and aggressive tactics are most likely to get what they go after no matter Steemit or anywhere else. The humble, kind and silent ones that work in the background go unnoticed. Maybe people are just lazy to look or does not care enough. Maybe they think that those who scream louder should get awarded for their bravery to demand things.

Of course everyone can do whatever they wish with the Steem they earn, sometimes there is no other way for people, but I think it wasn't the case you described.

There is Time for everything. A time to nurture, and a time to let go. No one can babysit anyone forever, I've said it before that, as much as steemit is a fun place, it's a tough place, so anyone who can't stand on his/her own two feet, might not survive here.

Bad behaviour , bad behaviour , bad behaviour .....What exactly is considered a bad behaviour on steemit coz I think it is relative. The few general ones are begging for upvotes and spamming. Anything else I don't know of?

The Guy was wrong anyways. He is being fraudulent and perhaps he thinks he is being smart. One thing we don't know about the steemit platform is that everyone has access to you account and can watch and monitor your every move. I actually recal one time @abh12345 held a contest and I asked how I could participate, only for someone to go dig up my analysis and I realised I had self voted myself 60% in the past week. I didn't know it was that bad though but since my voting power was just $0.01 then, I felt it was of no use to anyone and so used it to upvote my comments when I get to comment late to get visibility .

Bad behaviour is always relative. People act in their self-interest but what happens when one discovers that that behaviour is harming others? Do they stop it, find another way to satisfy needs or continue on unabated?

People also act in their self interest and expect certain outcomes based upon it but aren't willing to investigate whether what they are doing is going to get them there.

We all have responsibility of our actions, even if we do not want to admit it.

Excellent publication @tarazkp and I agree with you there is a group of people in the community who think that victimizing will be taken into account by other Steemians. I'm not saying that there are not those who are really having a bad time but those people are making the effort to improve daily, while the other group does not, as you say, achieves its objective, charges is lost a few days and returns to repeat the scam.
I would like to translate your post into Spanish and share it with more people in the community. Claro always giving you the credit and referring to the original post

Learnt to have a thick skin. Ignore them. There are things a lot worse in life. Give you an example how bad is this. A group has imported blind people to help make money by begging at traffic lights in South Africa. See them every day and literally just turn a blind eye now. Obviously their scam is working because they have been around for months. Sick world we live in.

Don't let the expectations and opinions of other people affect your decisions. It's your life, not theirs. Do what matters most to you; do what makes you feel alive and happy. Don't let the expectations and ideas of others limit who you are. If you let others tell you who you are, you are living their reality — not yours. There is more to life than pleasing people. There is much more to life than following others' prescribed path. There is so much more to life than what you experience right now. You need to decide who you are for yourself. Become a whole being
