I agree to a point but I don't want it, I'd rather see Steemit put them out of business. Don't you think if Facebook did what we do, it would crush us? They already have the users and the masses......

If the FBcoin was part of their centralized system, how would there be a price discovery system? For that, at a minimum, people would need to be able to transfer their FBcoins onto an exchange. 

Might they instead keep it all under their internal control, letting users “cash in” their tokens for FB swag or other items, basically S&H Green Stamps for the digital age?

I am not so sure about this. I agree, that it would help to lower the entry bar for the masses. 

But I am not sure where you going with this. You would invest into their token because you think it would surpass Bitcoin quickly. But you also think it would be hacked and destroy Facebook somehow? Wouldn't they have some form of crypto-login then? And you would then start to sell that coin after Facebook gets hacked? Or sit on it?

I would delete my Facebook if it wasn’t for the fact that I’d lose contact with a good portion of my family and friends in other parts of the world, and I agree with you 100% taskmaster. 

Facebook having a crypto would definitely “mainstream “ crypto more than even Wall Street ever could, because people from all walks of life use Facebook. They don’t necessarily invest in Wall Street, at least not directly.

It's probably developed but it might not ever be released. I don't think Facebook can compete with Steem.

I think that you're right that there would be a huge spike, then it would drop. Then it would go back up from there. It would pull money from other cryptos for a while, but it would also bring new money into the market. I wouldn't be surprised if stocks started taking a hit if that happened because people would want to get their money into something that was going to move faster.

I recently joined ONSTELLAR which is like a hybrid between SteemIt and Facebook. It is a brand new platform that still has a lot of room for growth, but I like it so far. It has its own token called ONST worth about twenty cents at the time of writing this comment.

It is  site for metaphysical enthusiasts, so you might not be into it unless you like those topics. There are crypto communities on that platform, you would have a good presence there.

I've thought about this many times as well.  Money from the Facebook coin would trickle in to every other blockchain project.  I've also thought that Amazon would have their own coin by now.  They already have Twitch "bits".  Guess we'll just have to wait and see where it goes.

@taskmaster4450 If Facebook launched their own token and started rewarding users for sharing content, this would definitely kill Steem, no doubt about it. Steem is a couple of years old and has what a little under a million users (maybe 15% of those are real non-bot users).

Compare this to Facebook with 2 billion users. What we have to realise is Steem has had a first-mover advantage but sadly has failed to keep on top of the project technologically (SMT's have been promised forever).

In this situation, Steem would be MySpace, a popular platform that failed to innovate and ultimately was beaten by Facebook to be number one. We couldn't survive competition from someone else with a larger userbase and developer resources.

I also question what advantage Steem has as well. We don't have the users, we have an inequality problem, spam, bots, and a trending page that is akin to a paid seat at a poker table in a rigged poker game. There are real issues that Steemit Inc have ignored for over two years now.

If all you had to do to start earning tokens was have a Facebook account, that's a low barrier to entry that Steem can't compete with. The account creation process for Steem is horrendous and holding back user adoption.

You raise some good points, but I don't see Facebook launching a cryptocurrency of their own. If they did and it competed with Steem, it would arguably not work in our favour (unless they messed it up).

I dont its a centralized system and honestly less and less people are using it.  Your not free to post anything you wish. If they are going to use crypto then then should just use one of the main ones that already exist. perhaps when Ethereum sharing comes out they could token off of that.

To be honest with you I see a shift happening. People are getting off of centralized systems and going to decentralized ones. It seems to be the next phase on the internet. Crypto and decentralization.

Only that blockchain is not equal to blockchain. I guess the Facebookchain would be strongly centralised. It might be a disaster in convincing people they are using real blockchain, when in fact they are not. 

Eventually they would get hacked and then there is a mess potentially shaking confidence in crypto altogether. Or they would implement all the regulations demanded and cooperate with banks to keep the financial controls in place or even extend them. 

And if Facebook is gonna release a true open public decentralised blockchain, then why do we need facebook in the first place?

I am not looking forward to the day Facebook releases a crypto token. I think nothing good will come from it. Might still buy it though to bet on a quick profit ...

If facebook shifts from centralization to decentralization and brings out a token it would be nice because all the time i've invested there and all I've built there. Competition is good and healthy, and it puts pressure on each part to enhancement.

FB User 1: "Oh, so this FaceCoin thing is actually like money that I can earn just for participating."

FB User 2: "Right. But you can also just buy some, like a stock, and maybe make some money when it goes up in value."

FB User 1: "Cool. I've been thinking about getting into stocks."

FB User 2: "Well, make sure you diversify. There are a lot of other coins out there besides FaceCoin."
