i was ready to go this morning, got myself all setup for the win, get five videos recorded back to back and put them up and then upload, push the post up then start recording the rest and slowly roll them out, linking them up and editing the post as we go, chances are now i’ll post the blog article tomorrow anyway because tuesday are supposed to be better anyway as people kinda appear to be on more if i remember the charts correctly.

ok, the things i did today to get things back on track and fixed

## i deleted a bunch of stuff
obvious one but my drive was down to about 200gb from a 1tb hybrid drive, i’ve found when i’m under 100 things get a bit weird so i hadn’t seen that the 4k footage i was editing the weeks before was kinda giving me a bit of a performance hit. roll on the days i have dedicated external drives for video files to work from.

## removed more than one desktop presenter
this was the big one. took me a good twenty minutes of turning things on and off in the software and checking the cpu with istat pro menus. what i found out was that i had a bunch of desktop presenters made up on the left side of my sources and even thou i was not using them each one used a little but more of cpu up regardless. once i bought this down to one from like 6 or 7 things started to work again properly.

i couldn’t work out why i wasn’t able to get video to save and encode faster than 20fps, normally i can record a 30fps video not a problem in wirecast with a background gen lock effect no problem. i double checked my web cam settings to see if it was an issue there by recording a video in quicktime player, i found that the webcam and the software are a problem bottleneck - for the future it’s a new camlink hdmi connector and a 4k camera dropped down to 1080p i think and a elgato pull up green screen. that could be a game changer for making courses, pull it up, let’s go, also sharp, no messing, fold down — not that the one i have is a faff but it’s far from as easy and sharp everytime.

## removed all virtual audio drivers
sound flower, audiovox, in fact a whole bunch of old audio drivers that i no longer use that are just sitting there, out of date software potentially causing me issues, i wanted to clear it down. one thing i’ve learned is that using software for switching can be problematic, new updates, software crashing with other software — if you can afford, use a piece of dedicated hardware to do the video and audio switching. trust me, you will thank me for it.

the only reliable piece of software i’ve used for video streaming and switching is obs because it’s fairly self contained. it’s either working or not, seeing as a lot of streamers use it regularly, a lot of developers help out with keeping the software going.

tomorrow i get back into recording — i just wanted to store this note so that next time i have weirdness or if you have problems with software lagging that you can potentially find this one the web and have some areas to try because it might save you an hour! :)
