Returning to Steemit? An author's dilemma

It's been roughly a year since I last pushed the "publish" button on steemit.com. A lot has happened since, but most of it is boring - life, work, relationships and general lack of time pushed my Steeming out of me schedule.

Lately, I've been revisiting the idea of writing on Steemit again. I've dropped to half time in my day job, I haven't moved forward with the book I started posting here in hopes it would get me typing along, and this is an oportunity to return with whatever curation and content creation I can contribute. Also, some local steemers have been encouraging me on WhatsApp.

Amusingly enough, my attempt at a return started with a failure: steemit.com appears to be down, or halfway down, and so resteems or posts vanish into the ether. This post is brought to you by busy.org, which is not something that existed back when I joined Steemit.

I wonder if I still have any "living" followers left to answer, but here goes:

- Is this a good time to return, in terms of coin value, platform stability (heh) and such?
- What are the biggest changes to Steemit in the past year that you think I should catch up on before I make a fool of myself?
- Given my broad range of writing topics and interests, what type of content would you like to see me post? Text? Perhaps this is an oportunity to try video?

Welcome back @techslut! I always thought you lost your password or something. 
Things on steemit today are kinda messy (same old same old). The same people with shitposts on trending page every day.  You need to buy votes via multiple services like @booster @minnowbooster @bellyrub @randowhale to get any kind of reward these days. But as always you have to STEEM ON no matter what kind of circumstances are on the platform. 
 Steem price has been around 1USD value for a while now, I guess we stabilized here, but as always there is a chance to go lower or higher. Nobody knows for sure.

Of course there is a quality content always. It just gets buried with huge piles of shitposts. Sure you can scroll until tomorrow and you can find something good in the new tab. It is just too pointless, slow and time consuming. We are waiting for communities feature soonish to fix that.
Quality audience, forget about that :) You can see tons of bad comments from people who don't even understand a word you wrote. 
Steemit, atm Pay2Win for sure.

Biggest change is that now you can use up 10% of your daily voting power per vote, a few month back it was 1/40. 
Same update brought a more linear SP curve. 

Means e.g. in my case shortly after my vote finally changed payout by 1 cent it was suddenly 10 cent per (full) vote.

You can lower your voting power with the bar, just put it to e.g. 50% when you upvote someone. You should have enough SP to see it. Just try it with my comment ;)

(It balances out eventually whatever you do, if you constantly  vote 20 times each day your voting power will be 50% contantly.  but manually control gives you better control.

I was wondering why you disappeared a year ago. People are still around, trying to make this platform better (and this works better and better). People gaming the system are also still around, although those ones change once in a while  :)

I've only been here six and a half months so can't speak to how things have changed over the last full year, but lately there's been *a lot* more garbage posts AND some really wonderful posts. Check out @ocd which has been doing a great job of highlighting good posts, mostly by newer Steemians.

Good to see you back :) The biggest change in that 1 year is that now for votes ... we have to buy votes and several are today the projects for that. This is sad. The speech of being "rewarded according to the quality of your posts" no longer exists. Welcome again and good luck. I'm following :)
