Hi steemians, things were a little bit cold today and it got me thinking about some events that occurred when I first gained admission into junior secondary school.
I grew up in ibadan city, attended Loyola College Ibadan for my junior secondary school and Wesley College of Science for my senior secondary school. I grew up in the greedy street of Iwo road, around so many street kids, most of us now men but I grew up in a home where so many values were taught against both verbal and physical violence. My mum instilled good character into me and my siblings.
My first few days on secondary school was like hell. I was always bullied by my mates who felt I was too gentle. They took my meekness for weakness. They call me nasty names of all sorts because they felt I was too gentle to react when oppressed. My classmates taunted me for no reasonable offense. No matter the extent of abuse my mates incurred on me, I always maintain my calmness not because I'm weak but because of the home I came from. The news had already travelled across all Jss1 classes that there's this new boy in j.s.s1 I and J, who is so gentle to fault and nothing you do will annoy him, as the news spread the number of physical oppressors increased.
Then came a particular afternoon, I can't remember the exact day, I say on my personal chair that I brought from home because my school was a public school and we were not provided with furnitures in our classes, most students sits on crappy furniture and even some on concrete bricks. There is this boy in my class, his name is Idowu popularly called I.D. Idowu is a well known bully. He had already beaten a number of pupils in Jss1. He look well fed and strong. Idowu deliberately stepped on my foot, the white socks I've been maintaining all day got stained in the process. My eyes became reddened, my heart beating faster and my nose flared up. I stood up with so much energy and speed, locked up his collar, dragged him to the board and stamped his back on the chalky board, he tried to restrain himself from me but I was too strong for him, I rained succession of hard blows on his face and every other part of his body I was able to hit, I hit his nose in the process and blood started gushing out of his nostrils, after that I dropped him down on the floor. Some of the boys are shouting and praising my name. Everybody was surprised the gentle boy just defeated their greatest tormentor in a battle in less than a minute.
Few minutes after the fight, I went back to my sit and started reflecting a. I was so unhappy with myself. I shouldn't have done that, I wasn't brought up that way. After we closed for the day, I apologized to the beaten Idowu. Ever since that day, everybody started respecting me, I made a lot of friends because I had beaten Id. I was celebrated by my mates for something I did that I was not proud of. I started wondering why people were admiring a fighter, then I got an answer. I had always knew I had the power to defend myself, I had bigger chest, broader shoulders and even stronger than most of my mates but I gave them an impression on muscular weakness with my gentle reactions, then I understood the importance of an **IDENTITY**

It is not enough to know who you're. It's is also important to show people who you're.
Always show your **IDENTITY**
Kingship is not an occasional regalia. It is an **IDENTITY**.
