It looks like Israel is wanting to join the US, Russia, and China in making a controlled landing on the moon. The unmanned robotic capsule, called Beresheet, will land on the moon in mid-April, but why will it take so long? The SpaceX rocket has launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida with the Israeli spacecraft on board.  Beresheet will zip around Earth for about six weeks in ever-widening orbits before heading toward its final destination. The craft will arrive in lunar orbit in early April and attempt a landing on the 11th of that month.

>“We thought it’s about time for a change, and we want to get little Israel all the way to the moon,” said Yonatan Winetraub, co-founder of SpaceIL, the nonprofit organisation behind the effort.
<br />“We’ll keep analyzing the data, but bottom line is we entered the very exclusive group of countries that have launched a spacecraft to the moon,” said Yigal Harel, head of SpaceIL’s spacecraft program.
