For the last week or so, I've had this idea rolling around in my head. I was Inspired by the subreddit millionairemakers, which has been around for a couple years now. 

For those who are unfamiliar with this subreddit, it works like this: once a month, a post is made and is open to comments for 24hrs. Whoever comments (as long as their account is old enough to prevent abuse), is entered into a raffle of sorts. Using a complicated procedure that has something to do with the bitcoin network, a single user is selected and a new post is created announcing the winner. All other users are directed to donate $1 (or more, or less... anything at all really) via various methods, be it PayPal, bitcoin, etc. The goal is to get a million subscribers and while the subscriber level has gotten quite high, it's still not close enough, and only a small percentage of them actually end up donating to the winners.

That's okay, because you can't force people to participate and it would kill the spirit of the experiment if you did (with either charging an entrance fee or a monthly $1 prescription), not to mention the legal headaches of it being a lottery if you did. 

So if it's already a thing on reddit, why do I think it should be a thing on steem? Well, the primary advantage I believe is that there's less of a barrier for people to send and acquire funds. Instead of having 3-5 different methods of sending funds, users could simply click a "donate" button, sign the transaction with steem connect or Steem Keychain, and it would be done! 

And what about that "donate" button, what's that about? Well, I believe that with the current state of technology on the steem blockchain, this project/idea could be made as a dapp that could run semi-autonomously. The selection process could be run on top of the steem blockchain too, similar to how @epicdice is using steem blocks to generate random numbers. 

Users could also use their upvotes to support the winner too, in case they are unable to send 1 steem. 

Another advantage that I believe the steem blockchain would have in running something like this is steem power. When the official account creates the posts, all liquid proceeds could be saved and each winner could receive a portion (say 10%) to be powered up to their account. In the beginning this would be a small amount, but over time it could grow to be a substantial amount and even if it remained small, it helps spread steem power around which helps strengthen the blockchain and encourage retention for those who receive the power up. 

So instead of a winning user getting just liquid donations and possibly cashing it all out, never to return, they would also be "locked in" to help strengthen the millionaire maker community!

While this idea was stewing in my brain, i decided to look if someone else had started something like this, and it seems that's true. The account hasn't posted in a year, and while the name is the same as the subreddit, the method is entirely different. Instead of relying on donations of others, they were solely relying on the payout of the post, and predictably the project died. 

Since this name is already taken, a similar name would be suitable for the project, such as makingamillionaire or steemmillionairemaker, etc...

Wrapping up, I think this would be a good dapp to showcase the strong and generous community that steem has (which a lot of people say is it's most valuable asset). It would probably be an easy thing to set up, although admittedly I am not a technical person or programmer. With things like steem-engine, I believe that they will allow smart contracts soon which is what would be needed to get this thing going. It might even be possible to create it using dlux, which could add an extra element of cool with vr capabilities.
