It is best to avoid letting a cat sleep in the bed until one is completely aware of the risks involved. Aside from breaking unwanted habits, there are various risks relating to bacterial and parasite exposure. Various worms, mites and ticks may be present if a cat is untreated. 

Sleeping with a cat then provides windows of risk that can transfer from cat to human. It is best to visit the vet to screen for such risks before allowing co sleeping. Assessing these risks is important before letting a cat into the sleeping space.
