Over a year ago, I posted about [THUNDERBIRD PARK](https://steemit.com/travel/@thermoplastic/thunderbird-park) and said I was going to do an update. Sorry it took that long, so here are images from the previous post, and a large selection of photos from inside the museum (some of which have not been published before).

In June 2009 I visited Victoria, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island in Canada. One of the great attractions there  is Thunderbird Park, situated next to the Royal British Columbia Museum. The park is home to many totem poles (mostly Gitxsan, Haida, and Kwakwaka'wakw) and other First Nation monuments. The park takes its name from the mythological Thunderbird of Indigenous North American cultures which is depicted on many totem poles.

The Mungo Martin House (Wawadit'la), a traditional Kwakwaka'wakw "big house" was built in 1953 by Kwakwaka'wakw Chief Mungo Martin. The park is part of the Royal BC Museum Cultural Precinct, an area around the museum that contains a number of historical sites and monuments.

Gestohlenes Zeug von Indianerstämmen, die die Kolonialisten fleißig abgeschlachtet und verfolgt haben. Die Artefakte auch noch auszustellen ist ein Armutszeugnis. Die Engländer gehörten mitunter zu den Schlimmsten. Es ist eine Schande.

Totaler Blödsinn den Du da verzapfst! Du hast nicht die geringste Ahnung! Dieses Museum ist von den Stämmen geschätzt, es befindet sich genau dort wo sie leben und arbeiten! Thunderbird Park ist ein Platz vor dem Museum wo die Ureinwohner Bildhauer öfter arbeiten (die Totems wurden speziell im Auftrag für diesen Park geschnitzt), sowie einige der Kuratoren sind "Natives" die auch mit der Instandsetzung von Museumstücken beauftragt sind. 
Wenn jemand was darüber zu sagen hätte dann wären es die Ureinwohner Nordamerikas (die sich vehement dagegen wehren "Indianer" genannt zu werden) und nicht ein Deutscher "Möchtegerne Experte". 
In Kanada wurde niemand "abgeschlachtet" - es war eine Zufluchtsstätte für die verfolgten Stämme in der USA. 
Ich habe dort 5 Jahrzehnte gelebt, auch unter und mit Cree Stämmen in Alberta (mit denen ich verwandt bin).
Dies ist deren Erbe, das in der Provinz in der sie leben, einen Ehrenplatz erhalten hat.

Sorry, das mit Canada wusste ich nicht, aber ich hab mich in letzter Zeit genau mit diesem Thema beschäftigt - hauptsächlich was die Ostküste Amerikas betrifft und die Anfänge in den England und Frankreich viele Natives abgeschlachtet hat. Ich seh das eher systemkritisch. War überhaupt nichts gegen deinen Post, sonst hätt ich gar nicht erst gevotet.... aber das Thema macht mich einfach sensibel. Da ist viel schief gelaufen.


Dass ein Nachkomme ein traditionelles Haus gebaut hat, hab ich so nicht gesehen... kam da gleich in eine Art Trance, da ich mich da sehr echauffieren kann. Die Naturvölker sind mir einfach immer sehr wichtig gewesen.. Für mich ist gleich der Eindruck entstanden, als wäre es gestohlen vom Staat. Ist ja zur Genüge auch in PERU passiert !!!

Und ich finde du musst nicht gleich persönlich werden.

I love the stylized lines and patterns of Native art and pattern. It's always so inspriational. I've collected a few wooden masks myself, from native and African tribes. They are always an inspiration and just seem like a good totem to have around.
