If you are new to this sphere of user interface, branding and design in general, your initial work will normally not  always be sensational at first. But here are 3 Habits that can help you be a better designer. This is true not only for new professionals but also can help those who already have some road time.



### 1. DRAW

There is no doubt that in the reality in which we live, a computer is essential for those who work with design. However, draw, sketch, scribble, scratch or whatever you prefer to call. The tip here is to pick up the pen and the paper.

Some designers start projects without touching a computer. They present to their clients the initial traces and sketches in a notebook and the definition of the project starts from there. If you work with branding, ui, ux, among many other areas, you can apply this principle.

Besides this flexibility and agility in projects that are starting, studies show that drawing stimulates your neurological system and improves your health and well being. And there are still indications that this type of activity can reduce stress and decrease the rate of cognitive decline.

### 2. READ

When we work with design, we usually deal with a wide range of subjects. Maybe you're already thinking about the customers you've come to from the most diverse areas. Well, because of this variety, the broader our knowledge, the better professionals we will be. And one of the most effective ways to do this is by reading.

You will find a wealth of lists of great books on the internet, including lists specific to designers. I could write here about the advantages of reading about design, marketing, typography, etc. But I believe you are already well aware of these advantages. I would like to share something I read this week. Being emotionally transported to a book can make you a more empathetic person. The study that raised this point used a book by Arthur Conan Doyle, nothing more, nothing less than the creator of Sherlock Holmes.

Note that we are not talking about complex or specific books for each profession. We are talking about being transported emotionally into a fictional book and that this can make you a more empathetic person. And what a great quality for our profession.

Curious people are active people. They are always asking questions and looking for new possibilities. This is a very common trait in children, you may notice by the amount of questions they ask or by the unusual solutions they present to everyday day-to-day problems.

And if you notice, unusual solutions to trivial problems is a quality of an excellent designer. The famous "think outside the box" comes from curiosity, from not conforming to standard answers.

And how to do that? Do not label, do not accept things as they are. Go ever deeper and do not be afraid to ask questions. Always keep an open mind to learn. Sometimes you will be wrong and being curious helps you accept this easily.

### CONCLUSION
Sometimes the way to be a good professional in the area of design may seem long. But with these 3 simple habits, you can shorten that path well. Drawing, reading and staying curious are not just habits that help you to be a better professional, but as the studies have shown, they help you to be a better person.
