When you want to do something and others tell you that you shouldn't do it, don't listen to them. It does not matter if you are the only one that thinks this way. Ignoring other people will make you the one that gets listened to, not the one that does things for them.

Lets say that you found a new job and your boss tell you that you are not successful enough in your job to be promoted. You know that you are talented however and your whole life experiences prove this. So what is your reaction? Be quiet. People will make assumptions based on how we act. If you follow everyone's advice to the letter, and you ignore their advice and character, then you are following them to a certain degree. You have heard of leaders who get involved in their subordinates life. Well, this is what leaders do. If you think that you can have someone else do all the things for you then you are wrong. Leaders are leaders because they set the standards and they have the strength of character to carry those standards out. They do not tolerate mediocrity.

Are you a good listener? Are you someone who looks at things in the eyes? Do you speak up for what you believe in? Do you speak out against discrimination of any kind? Are you strong enough to stand up for what is right? If you can answer yes to these questions then you have what it takes to run a business or be a leader.

The ability to connect with people starts with how you are able to listen. You have to have the ability to be empathetic. You have to be willing to take a step back and look at things from their perspective. In order to effectively lead others, you have to see the best in them.

The last thing you should do is to do things for yourself. You want people to like you and like your company. This will get you ahead of your competition. People who are successful are not afraid to do things for themselves. You will be much more successful if you do things for yourself.

You must be a go getter. When people need something they will go to anyone. If you are willing to do that then you can be an effective salesman. Selling is not about pushing a product or service but it is about being willing to push yourself forward.

Be a person of honor. Honesty is the best policy. If you are willing to be upfront with people about what is going on then they will respect you. Respect means a lot to people. They will look to you to be a role model.

Don't be afraid to say no. If you don't feel you have been given a chance to do a good job then say no. You might have to give people time but they will appreciate it.
