Reboots. You either love them or hate them. With the 2016 reboot of <em>Ghostbusters</em> it seems the vocal minority are winning the battle. While I am a huge fan of the first two films, even enjoyed both versions of the cartoon, I am also apparently one of the few that found a lot to like in the all female lead <em>Ghostbusters</em> reboot that we saw. I get why people had a problem with it, I just don’t get why they had <em><i>such a huge </i></em>problem with it. Now word has gotten out that there will be an official <em>Ghostbusters 3</em> movie and it is bringing most of the original cast to reprise their roles - all but ignoring the reboot. Some fans are not happy about this fact while others are ecstatic. I am more interested in how <em>Ghostbusters 3</em> handles things than I am where it places in the overall movie universe.

Late last year <a href="https://comicbook.com/2018/11/14/ghostbusters-3-dan-aykroyd-original-cast-written/">Comicbook.com ran an article stating that Dan Aykroyd</a> flat out put to rest the idea of any link between <em>Ghostbusters 3</em> and the 2016 reboot. There won’t be any.

Some of the people upset about this revelation include Leslie Jones, who played in the 2016 reboot in case anyone managed to avoid that tidbit. Jones returned to Twitter at some point after leaving the social media platform due to harassment over her involvement with the 2016 reboot. <a href="https://twitter.com/Lesdoggg/status/1086748467828019200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1086748467828019200&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcomicbook.com%2Fmovies%2F2019%2F01%2F20%2Fleslie-jones-slams-new-ghostbusters-movie%2F">She had this to say</a>:

Fans are coming out in droves calling Jones out for her lack of respect for the franchise in general at this point. Some are asking how Jones can be mad at a film not acknowledging the 2016 reboot when that same reboot all but ignored the original source material in the first place.

Others are claiming they would like to see continuations of both versions of the franchise with new stories and adventures. I don’t think that will happen though.

According to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ghostbusters-box-office-loss-sequel-unlikely-918515">Hollywood Reporter, the 2016 reboot of <em>Ghostbusters</em></a><em> </em>lost Sony over $70 million. Movies that do that don’t tend to receive sequels as the studios either kill the project or go in another direction. With the recent news of a sequel featuring most of the original cast it seems the studio is going in another direction. Maybe the direction they should have gone in the first place and not even attempting the reboot?
