For the first time since 1989 (or 1969)
More African Americans than whites in the United States! Not cause for celebration, yet.

Traditionally black Americans represented 12% up until the Civil rights movement, because of attrition directly due to Jim Crow during the period from end of Civil war to 1964.

Throw in infant mortality, which was big during the nineteenth century, and black transport numbers were not surpassing 12%! That is, for blacks who without ancestry.com or 23 and me, still traced their lineage to west Africa with or without master's sperm and DNA.

Consider, there have never been twelve black US senators (out of 100) at the same time. I wrote about this from USF in Tampa by 1990. Black americans have not experienced commensurate representation, until now. Thanks to the US census, where Americans can choose African american status, now (2018) they choose to be black instead of white. For the first time!
