It really depends on what nationality your are wanting to renounce. Here in Norway we currently have a legal thing going about this, where some people want to renounce their Norwegian citizenship in order to become stateless. The government do not think this is okay, so that's why a legal battle is going it. It will be interesting to see the result, but that could take years.

If you really want to do it, then I suppose you should get into contact with a government official to find out if it's even possible to do.

Another alternative to renouncing your nationality would be to get another one. I think this is probably easier, especially if you got some money laying around. If you're willing to live in another country for a while, then you should consider checking out how to get a passport for countries like Belgium, Argentina, Panama, or Brazil.

Yea, I'm in Belgium, not really in the economy though. For my situation now, I meet all the criteria except the economic participation, like paying 2 years tax as a full-time worker. Kinda annoying. But maybe I'll try to figure out the freelancing alternative.
