It already has been a while since my last post in my "Music is magic, music is emotion" series. Not that I'm not busy with music lately on Steemit, but in some other ways :)..
I'd never had really a weak for progressive rock, when I was some younger I did listend to sympho a lot, metal and rock but not really progressive. Untill I visited a friend of my brother (buying his electric guitar, I wrote about it in one of my previous posts). This guy 'Epi' was a good friend of my brother, the visited a lot of concerts already together. I was just joining the whole concert world etc.
When we had a beer Epi showed us a video (my sons laugh when I tell them about video and cassette tapes) of Dream Theater live in Tokyo. I didn't believed what I heard, normally as a 'music lover' you tap along with songs, but with Dream Theater it was impossible.... There was no steady rhytm to tap along. They switched so often and fast to other rythms and beats, it was (for me at that time) unbelieveable..

I was impressed by every single musician in the band, they were all exeptional in their instrument. I knew for sure that I wanted to have that video too, so i bought it in our local music store (webshops weren't available that time lol).
I watched the video many many times.. And everytime I discovered something new in the songs, now being many years further I stll think that concert is one of DT best gig's ever...

Of course I wanted to see them live, so when they came to Holland my brother and I were one of the first to got the tickets.. It was in Den Bosch, Maaspoort. It's a bit in the south of Holland. This was my first concert of a progressive metal band, and I was supprised by the relaxed atmosphere in the venue. There were a lot of aldery people ( at least my impression that time) and it was al realxed and chill.
As a support act [VanDenPlas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanden_Plas_(band)) played. A German prog band. They are some more melodic but you can hear some DT influences. The singer had broken his leg and was performing on a chair :) [Years later Dave Grohl imitated him](https://youtu.be/GeUrSm4_cpk) ;)

The Dream Theater show was aswesome. We were upfront stage, enjoying a beer and being amazed by the virtuosity of the band. For me [John Myung](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Myung) is a absolute bass-god. The parts he plays are often the double's of the guitar.. I really never have any bassplayer seen playing such a lines.

I kept following Dream Theater through the years, but really after their album "Falling into Infinity" I lost them a bit. Their music direction had changed and I couldn't dig it really... In my musical career :P I did play one Dream Theater song:

One of the most impressive songs (I think) of Dream Theater isn't the most complex. "Take away my pain" was written by John Petrucci in honour of his father who passed away. The lyrics are so poetic and awesome... Still when I listen to this song (which I am actually doing now) I get goosebumbs. The way they build up the energy and emotion in the song is just stuning..

I have seen Dream Theater about six or seven times. One time they played in Ahoy Rotterdam, the show was called "An evening with Dream Theater" and they played for more than three hours ?!?! , it was a great gig..

Have a great evening and keep up that music !!
