I am a sincere believer of luck & destiny but if you ask me if its all destiny that makes you who you are today, gives you what you have today?



Answer is plain NO.

Think of it like this



>When we take birth, we are like plain solid rocks. Then we get sculpted according to experiences of life and how we live, how we think, how we respond,what we believe in, what we do, why we do it. We are the ultimate sculptors of our lives. Destiny might bring a cool hammer your way for you to be able to sculpt, but not necessarily that the sculpture will turn out great. Someone somewhere might be sculpting the rock of their life with a stone and their sculpture might turn out better than yours because of their efforts and humble attitude.



So yes we play a big hand in shaping who we are today.



<h2>My father being deceived by his brothers and left with no money, a wife and three kids taught me -  HARD WORK is the key. Before that I used to think we need to take birth in a rich family with all the comforts.</h2>



Most of us at some point in our lives do think that if we want this or that, we should have been born in a rich family. But reality is you can build anything from scratch if you believe in yourself. My father was deceived by his brothers and was left with no money. He borrowed some money from people around us and started on his own. It was 2004 I still remember, I was way too young back then to understand what was going on. We just had a house and nothing else. But today we have everything - the house got bigger, we have vehicles, food to eat, clothes to wear, basically abundance in life.




We have everything today because my father did put on the courage mask and started it all from scratch. He could have cried and complained like people do, but that would have done no good.
My fathers always tells his story to anyone who is going through tough times. It really inspires me and bring me to tears. Although I was just ten at that time and could not do anything.




Today I understand it as - When you work toward anything with all your energy and want, universe will give you all the opportunities, all the help and make it happen for you.



So no matters what the destiny throws at you, you have the power to change anything or everything.

<h2>My mother being real bad sick taught me how to be compassionate to sick people, before that I lacked courtesy & humbleness</h2>



Back in 2015 when I just got out of college and went to another city to work in an IT company, my mother got sick with Dengue. Then came tuberclosis, diabetes followed, then it was cysts followed by a surgery to remove one of her ovaries.



Seeing her in pain, I used to cry all the time, in office , in washroom, before sleeping, while eating - All the time. But I did not cry even once in front of my family, I put on a very strong face, managed work, home, took care of mama.



What happened is - My close friends at that time and my colleagues did not care about it. Not even a single one of them asked about my mama's health when I was away with her during her surgery. This just added into my cries at that time. But it taught me how important is it  to be compassionate to someone whose loved one is sick, let alone to the sick person itself.



All I expected was someone to ask me 'How is your mother doing?'



I came back to office and saw all those people I spend my 10 hours with everyday, do not care. I stopped talking to them as it was a very disturbing experience for me. But it opened my eyes. After that, every time I hear someone is sick or their loved one is sick, I keep checking on them.

<h2>My brother being bullied for most of his life taught me we should never laugh at others before realizing this I was one of those laughing at others</h2>



Ok so my brother has a problem of blabbering while speaking. Honestly I do not think its a disability or anything at all. But the world made it such a big thing for him. He and I used to go to same school, he was in one senior grade than mine. He was bullied all the time, I could see it and I never did anything to help him.
Being bullied has impacted his self confidence and his life altogether. I have a deep sense of guilt inside me for being a bad sister, because I never helped him or always treated him like he is lesser than me.



I am a slim pretty girl but couple of years ago I gained weight all of a sudden. It was college time and I was badly bullied. Oh god, my self confidence went to zero from a hundred. That is when I realized how bad is it to be bullied. I regained to the slimness but I was a changed person, this is also when my faith in God deepened.



I used to think about my brother and how tough his life has been. After that I started treating him with all the love & respect that he deserve and  I pray to God to keep him before me in all good things. I try to forgive myself thinking "Its ok none of it was intentional - you were little & growing up, love your brother now and fix it, there is time."

<h2>Me being sick to death taught me none of it matters except being happy and spreading happiness. Before that I was a person of personality</h2>



I got sick in October last year. It was a series of four diseases back to back till end of February when I was able to sail normal course of life again. Before getting sick, I was an image conscious perfectionist, a die hard people pleaser.



But then I got sick, had to slow down on life forcefully. Lost it all, realized no one cares If I die except my loved ones. People I keep pleasing would feel sad for a day or two and my chapter will be closed in everyone's life. It was January when I was suffering from neck spondylitis and was supposed to do nothing, just lay down.



I lied on grass at my terrace garden in my hometown and it occurred to me, every time I am agreeing with something I do not believe in to please people - I am shutting myself down. Doing it for years have made my real self being buried deep somewhere.



That was the start of a change in me. *A PARADIGM SHIFT* Everything turned from personality ethic to character ethic.

>So yes, no matter what the destiny or luck throws at you or gifts you with, It totally depends on your attitude and efforts - What you become is a result of your own actions or responses to events in life.


The lessons from my mother's and my father's life has a different impact on my brother and me. That is where, my choices come. How do I take it, How do I think of it.


This is How I shaped myself with the stones that life threw at me. I sculpted myself with them rather than having scratches.  This is what I think.

I read posts from a few steemians that I closely follow on this question prompt by @tribesteemup. I just asked the question to myself during a shower last night and so much came up that I felt like writing and affirming my thoughts deep into my soul.
