Author's Commentary: 
Attending to footwear was one of my later edits - I suddenly realized that Ardin would be barefoot for most of his beach activities. It's simply easier and feels better most of the time. Yet, when faced with other activities, he is still sensible. Wearing sturdy flip flops into the woods or wherever he forages to protect his feet, and his boots for when he actually goes places.

I drew on my own experience foraging - including mushrooming. I, personally, have foraged about a dozen different varieties of wild mushroom. (Eating most of those.) My parents do far more than I, but they prepare their mushrooms differently than I because they are raw vegans, so marinate their mushrooms as a way of "cooking" them - or before they dehydrate them.

I can feel the coastal storm buffeting the A'mara hoverbil, can't you? I grew up on the coast, so I well remember what a winter wind/rain storm feels like! It would be difficult controlling a lightweight hoverbil in that!
