When I see a butterfly I think of the symmetry of beautiful wing patterns and the pollination of plants... but there is a lot more beyond the surface:

*Between February and march they wake up from a long hibernation and search for a mate and the ideal place to lay eggs.*

*During March and April they lay eggs and caterpillars come out. The caterpillars eat and eat for about two weeks and then it is ready to find a place to make its cocoon.*

*In ten days or so the Chrysalis stage begins where nothing really seems to be going on. But inside the caterpillar is changing into a butterfly.*

*The butterfly may live for 2 to 6 weeks and dies after laying eggs for the next generation.*

*The second generation comes to life in May or June and follows the same pattern. The third generation does the same.*

*Finally the fourth generation around October migrates to a warmer area and also hibernate for 6-8 months. Only a few survive until February or march and they begin the cycle again.*

So here is the mystery of life. 

We can only see the surface of the finished product. So much of our lives are spent just "surviving" or "crawling around" that is hard to see what we will become or what will become of generations ahead. Who in the third generation of butterflies would have guessed that their offspring would have to migrate south to survive and live in hibernation just to fly around one more spring and lay eggs and leave the world to the next generation?

These creatures are a wonder that never cease to amaze me.

Whoa! Now we're REALLY gettin' "down and dirty" with the butterflies. Also, the "accidental" camera "filtering" is right along with my recommendation of experimenting with the (post-production) filters. This might ALSO be a good opportunity to expand your photo editing craft. It would also be nice to have some quick SNIPPETS of information about each butterfly (especially the docent type "insider information"), as this would provide more of a "formal" education component to your inquiry into these fascinating creatures. Just some more ideas. I'm full of them...
