When the world is celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, our #teammalaysia Sabah had our first gathering called the Kaamatan Gathering.

Kaamatan means harvest in local dialect, is a festival celebrated by the ethnic Kadazan-Dusun every year in May.


And for this year, we had a special gathering where all the Sabahan steemian come together and celebrate the meaning of togetherness that unites us as a Steemit Family.

We discussed the possibility of doing this gathering since two months ago. The sweet, @melindajamulis took the responsibility and become the organizer with the help from @arwine, @beverlyjoe and his wife @verasj.


This gathering had brought us together and encourage us to be in continuous support inside and outside of Steemit. Amazing how this platform can give us the opportunity to get to know each other, who once a total stranger and quickly become a friend.

What a gathering without a BBQ and karaoke session? When @danieldoughty and myself arrived at the location, we saw @chanelcalestus was already busy showing is BBQ talent.

In Sabah, BBQ means chicken wings and hot dogs. We also had fried meehoon, noodles, chicken curry and for dessert @kilathecla brought some homemade donuts and cute mini tarts from @annekins.

When the stomach is filled, sing one or two songs (more like doing a back-up singer to @kilathecla 😝), had a few wefie with the group, finally the moment I’ve been waiting for, the Gin Rummy session.

When we first talked about doing a Gin Rummy on our last meeting at Starbucks two months ago, everybody had a good laugh about it. We thought it must be funny doing that in a gathering. But since we wanted to do something different, heck yeah! Let’s put that in our itinerary!


And, I am glad we did that! We had so much fun - laughing at jokes, win big at the session and without we realized, it’s already midnight. After agreeing that it should be our last five before we close the table, we end up finishing almost 2 in the morning.

You know you had a great time when you don’t seem to bother to check your watch. 

We are hoping to do this more in the future. By then, I hope, more and more steemians can come and join us, get to know each other and have fun! That would be amazeballs.


I hope this community will continue to support each other and encourage a positiveness in this platform.
