War and Peace... Iron Birds (Original photo & thoughts)

While on one of my business related travels, I managed to capture these iron birds, for a change, in February this year at an Air show. Not war-mongers these particular iron birds. They are rather a peaceful lot doing aerial calisthenics.

However, they did manage to start these thoughts about war in my mind.

Is a war essentially a difference of opinion between two people, blown way out of proportion? Historically - a leader thinks one way and another one thinks the other way. If it were just those two people having a difference of opinion, would a war happen? Perhaps not. It is when these two leaders go and rouse thousands of others, putting forward arguments designed to flame the fires of hatred - a war can happen. How many of those thousands actually do care about the actual issue which caused the difference of opinion? Probably very few. A lot of those thousands are in a war because of various things like their sense of patriotism, peer pressure or even for a mere livelyhood - things which mask over their rational thinking about the issue at hand.

When a world war happened in this world a few decades ago, did every one fighting that war on one side believe that everyone other than Aryans in this world needed to be subdued or wiped out? Perhaps not.

Anyway - Just thought of sharing this with Steemians. I would love to get your opinions.

### What do you think of Tolstoy's quote? Can wars be averted if each one of us decided to fight wars only if we were convinced of the cause and not for any other motivation ?

Thanks for this, I just watched the movie Dunkirk and it quotes a speech from Winston Churchill, was dramatic. I think wars are always basically economic in nature when you really get down to the bottom of it.
