What do you do with...

## Insects in your garden?

_Insects are part of Nature and as long as they are outside I will not fight them.
Spiderwebs for example I even leave at my front door. They are a good barrier to catch mosquitoes although it doesn't look clean to you (just removed them because I am painting the front door)._

![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRa9QJXaT5YeUsKRNX7CRiXbv87gQ8kMfkrANbeNtiivx/img_0.41960935500344443.jpg)
**My apple tree**... I noticed it doesn't do well. It was small as I planted it and still has the same size and... looks dead. The first summer I had blossom and three apples, the year after only one apple out of all the blossoms. Last winter is got buts because we suddenly had spring-like weather. It's possible that killed it or perhaps the ants did. Legions of ants I saw marching on my little tree. I think they build their home between the tree's roots. I could fight them but it's a lost battle. If you live in the country you have to accept the life of animals you don't like as much too.

**My mulberry tree** doesn't look that attractive either if the berries grow, ripen. It looks like webs some insects made. Webs twice as big as my hand. I never saw spiders or caterpillars. So I am not sure if it's the processional caterpillar. Once I cut down a tree in front of my window because of this caterpillar. Since that time I no longer see them. What the mulberry attracts are flies.

_My white and yellow roses aren't as strong as the red ones. It's a fact but I don't spray anything to kill aphids (greenfly). What cannot survive on its own isn't strong enough. They say nature can take care of itself. I stick to that rule even if my roses are eaten. An interesting fact is the ladybugs arrive weeks later. After the damage is done._

_lavender old and new_

My lavender and new curry plant take care of themselves. They have to because nature is hard but both rarely have insects attacking them. The only ones who love to roll through these plants are the wolves. I guess they like the smell as much as I do. Big black bugs are living underneath stones, everywhere where it's cold and dark. Slowly they crawl around although they have wings. The birds take care of them.

![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSfDh5uPzwdQR6Z4hkEzFA55APVmiuruyF4xbMjCvDxJs/img_0.2408372035421097.jpg)
_curry plant_

I planted a new blackberry bush last Autumn and a hazelnut tree. So far they are growing and the rainy weather makes it easier for me. Except for ants, flies and mosquitoes, I haven't seen any insects. I don't expect fruits this year. I just hope they grow faster than the grass and weeds do.

![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQme1EUDuniHNhnxVYGi2X4rKqEgB6p8vwhYWNoVTLnamF8/img_0.9332311644984911.jpg)
**My currant bush** has white currants. I never intended to have white currants, didn't even know it existed. They told me the white currants aren't that attractive to insects, birds or? It grows fast and needs a lot of water. One day it looks dead and the next day it's green and blossoms. I like this fruit but find it a pity I am the only one. I just pick it and eat it. There's enough fruit to share. So if some insects like it too it's fine with me.

Ants I see climb up my cherry trees too. One tree, the oldest and biggest although only 3-4 years old, has sour cherries. The small one (still a stick) the sweet (normal) cherries. Interesting enough the plague of insects always show up after I picked the cherries. My fruit tastes good and although I don't use pesticides it tastes and looks way better and bigger than what is for sale in the bio shops (always tiny, bruised and with worms).

_In my garden, the only insects I fight are those who attack the wolves (thicks, fleas, flies) and who come inside._

My plants are also attacked by ants and yes, I think they live in the roots of the plants and lay their eggs there. It is a madness to fight against them especially if you don't use chemical products. I only use organic insecticides prepared by me and with plants like garlic, onion and nin. But it is a slavery. They always come back.

I cook the onion and garlic shells, reduce it a little, add a little dishwashing soap and a few drops of vinegar. If I have a plant called nim or neem, I boil some of its leaves and mix them together, then I put it in a sprayer and every day I spray the plant until the pest is gone or I leave.

Esas hormigas son terribles se comen todo y terminan haciendo tuneles en la tierra con muchos huevos que no benefician para nada la tierra, yo les coloco polvo de hormigas pero claro mi jardin es pequeño. @wakeupkitty

Those ants are terrible, they eat everything and end up making tunnels in the earth with many eggs that do not benefit the earth at all, I put ant powder on them but of course my garden is small.

I was already afraid the ants caused the trouble. Good you told me. I noticed right above the soil the apple tree has some new leaves. The rest of it died. Only at the bottom there's still life in it.
This powder doesn't kill your plants?

I like the use of tyres as pots :) I usually would throw the seeds on the ground and see what happens. We have a curry plant, attacked by some black stuffs that sticks under the leaves. After we chopped them off, the plant grew back. They are pretty hardy.

While mowing it's easier to protect the plants this way. It's placed around the trees I planted too.

Some of my bushes are attacked by black sticky stuff too. I chopped or removed them. I think it has to do with the spot they are since they don't have it all. A few grow back so I'll keep an eye on them and the curry plant.

If I throw the seeds on the ground nothing will happen except weeds growing fast (yesterday I did a part in the back yard it was 1 meter high after the rain) and if I use the trimmer the new plants will be gone too.

For here I need to seed in pots on tables to make a chance or I need to plant plants.
