Guten Morgen zusammen!

Ein paar Tage war ich unterwegs und habe nur flüchtig hier hereingeschaut - in unserem Tagungshotel gab es beeindruckend schnelles Internet: 256 Kb/s. Das war... man fühlte sich unweigerlich an Modems erinnert, die so Einwählverbindungen zurechtzimmerten. Ihr wißt schon. 80-er und so. Soll heißen, ich hatte Freude an online-Abstinenz. Was ansonsten lief, reiche ich Euch bald nach; das muß nämlich noch ein bißchen sacken und in die passenden Worte verpackt werden.

Und wenn ich den @ty-ty auf die Art kurz alleine lasse, schreibt er derweil anscheinend einfach den Steem voll ;-)) Ich sollte das also wohl wieder öfter tun ;-)))

Okay - zu den Neuigkeiten, die ich loswerden wollte - habe ja ein paar Berichte begonnen, die noch der Vervollständigung harren. 

Die ukrainische Laika-Hündin, von der Ihr schon eine Menge gehört habt, ist vollkommen genesen. Sie hat die Folgen der Babesien-Infektion gut überstanden, ihre Nieren arbeiten unauffällig, die zweite Infusion hat sie nicht mehr arg beeinträchtigt und die Blutwerte sind seit drei Tagen stabil im grünen Bereich. Auf dem Stiftungshof von Freundin Anke hat sie zwischenzeitlich das Zepter in die Hand und die heimliche Herrschaft übernommen.

Sie ist clever, aufmerksam, temperamentvoll, verspielt und aufmerksamkeitssüchtig. Sie wird nie ein einfach händelbarer Hund sein, aber immer ein Goldschatz ;-))

Der aktuelle Stand sieht so aus, daß ihre ukrainische Familie über den Behandlungserfolg informiert ist. Da die Welpen der Hündin leider nicht überlebt hatten, ist der Schutzvertrag, der zunächst für Geburt und Absetzzeit galt und auf die Rekonvaleszenz erweitert wurde, demnächst ausgereizt. Die Besitzer müßten ihr Tier also innerhalb von 14 Tagen abholen kommen bzw. eine Übergabe vereinbaren, falls die Reise über die Entfernung für sie unzumutbar sein sollte. Bis einschließlich gestern Abend gab es noch keine Reaktion von ihrer Seite. Und jetzt warten wir...

Anderes Thema: die Beistell-Stute und ihr Fohlen (wir bleiben also noch kurz bei Anke und ihrer Stiftung)... Die beiden kamen eine Woche nach der Geburt des Hengstfohlens zurück auf die Koppel bei Storkow. Alles sah danach aus, als ob im weiteren Verlauf die Zusagen aus dem Beistellvertrag eingehalten würden. Wir räumten der Besitzerin und Tierärztin gegenüber ein, daß ihr Verhalten für uns weiter unethisch und unverantwortlich war, sie aber mit der abrupten Rückholung und Geburtsbegleitung die objektiv besten Bedingungen geschaffen hatte, um die Sache doch noch zu ihrem guten Ende zu bringen. Ja, wir hätten es an der Stelle auf sich beruhen lassen. Zähneknirschend, aber...

Vier Tage später kam Anke zur Kontrolle und Fütterung zur Koppel und vermißte die beiden Tiere. Nein, es war niemand ausgebrochen. Die Freiberger Jungpferde standen brav an Ort und Stelle und es gab keine defekten Zäune o.ä. Es war nahe liegend, die Besitzerin zu kontaktieren. Nachdem diese einige Zeit nicht erreichbar war (wie üblich), erklärte sie, bei einem Besuch ihres Fohlens wäre ihr eine Nabelentzündung aufgefallen. Da diese offensichtlich weder bemerkt noch behandelt worden war, habe sie sich entschlossen, Mutter und Sohn wieder mitzunehmen. Im zufällig mitgeführten Pferdeanhänger... Bescheid zu geben, hätte sie in der "Hektik" vergessen. Ersteres, die Nabelentzündung, kann ich mir vorstellen (wäre gar nicht unüblich und auch wenig dramatisch). Letzteres fällt mir dann doch schwer zu glauben - man fährt einfach nicht ohne Grund 80 Kilometer mit leerem Anhänger über Land, um ein Tier nur zu besuchen. Das sind aber genau die Brocken, die uns vorgeworfen wurden. Mittlerweile ist das bereits eine Weile her. Und jetzt warten wir...

Und noch eine Sache: die Pilzkultur-Geschichte...:

In dem Anzucht-Set, an dessen Erhalt und Aufbau Ihr bereits Anteil nehmen durftet, lag ja ein recht detaillierter Begleittext. Nachdem wir wie beschrieben die feuchte Erde auf das Substrat aufgebracht und das System wieder gut verschlossen hatten, sollte es drei bis vier Wochen dauern, bis sich an der Oberfläche das Myzel weiß abzeichnen sollte. Und he - nach meiner Rückkehr gestern schaute ich (bei zwei vorherigen vorsichtigen Visitationen gab es noch keine Veränderung) in die Kartons und yeah! Bei einem kann ich Erfolg ganz nach Packungsbeilage vermelden! Weil es sich um ein Probierset mit unterschiedlichen Sorten handelt, beunruhigt mich das nicht weiter; die zweite Kiste bekommt etwas mehr Zeit und wird sich auch wie erwartet entwickeln...

Es standen also Bastelarbeiten an: die Seitenteile des "reifen" Kartons wurden entfernt und die innere Folie über den Rand des Behälters gestülpt. Die vormaligen Klappen steckten wir gemäß Anleitung senkrecht in den Karton. So dienen sie als Abstandshalter und Dachträger für die Kunststoffhaube, die darübergespannt wie ein kleines Treibhaus für optimale Wachstumsbedingungen sorgen soll. Und das Ganze darf jetzt draußen stehen - Temperaturen zwischen 12 und 18°C werden als Optimum genannt, um in 4-6 Wochen die erste Ernte einfahren zu können.

Faktoren wie Licht oder Temperaturschwankungen sollen an der Stelle überhaupt keine Rolle spielen. Täglich muß die Folie für 5-10 Minuten geöffnet werden für erhöhte Frischluftzufuhr und bei dieser Gelegenheit wird die Erde mit Wasser besprüht, so daß alles immer gut feucht bleibt, ohne Staunässe zu bilden. Das tun wir natürlich - und jetzt warten wir...

Es geht also weiter, das Warten. An vielen Fronten (an der Stelle wird mir wieder einmal bewußt, wie viel Kriegsrhetorik wir noch ganz selbstverständlich im Alltag verwenden) ist die Hoffnung auf eine gute Entwicklung gegeben, aber beileibe nicht sicher. Ihr werdet auf dem Laufenden gehalten...

Good morning everyone!

I was on the road for a few days and only glanced in here - there was impressively fast internet at our conference hotel: 256 Kb/s. That was great. That was... It reminded me of the modems that used to set up dial-up connections. You know, the 80s and all that. In other words, I enjoyed not being online. I'll let you know what else happened soon; it still needs to sink in a bit and be put into the right words.

And when I leave @ty-ty alone for a while in this way, he apparently just writes all over the steem ;-)) So I should probably do that more often again ;-)))

Okay - to the news I wanted to tell you - I have started a few reports which are still waiting to be completed. 

The Ukrainian Laika bitch you have heard a lot about is completely recovered. She has survived the consequences of the babesia infection well, her kidneys are working without any problems, the second infusion did not affect her too much and her blood values have been stable for the last three days. In the meantime, she has taken over the sceptre and the secret rule at the foundation yard of our friend Anke.

She is clever, alert, spirited, playful and attention-seeking. She will never be an easy to handle dog, but always a sweetheart ;-))

The current status is that her Ukrainian family has been informed about the success of her treatment. As the bitch's puppies unfortunately did not survive, the protection contract, which was initially valid for birth and weaning and was extended to include convalescence, will soon be exhausted. The owners would therefore have to come and collect their animal within 14 days or arrange a handover if travelling the distance would be unreasonable for them. Up to and including last night, there has been no reaction from their side. And now we wait...

Another topic: the foster mare and her foal (so we'll stay with Anke and her foundation for a moment)... The two came back to the paddock near Storkow one week after the birth of the colt. Everything looked as if the promises made in the contract would be kept. We admitted to the owner and veterinarian that her behaviour was still unethical and irresponsible for us, but that she had created the objectively best conditions to bring the matter to a good end with the abrupt retrieval and birth attendance. Yes, we would have let it go at that point. Gritting our teeth, but....

Four days later, Anke came to the paddock for a check-up and feeding and missed the two animals. No, no one had escaped. The Freiberger young horses were standing well in place and there were no broken fences or the like. It was obvious to contact the owner. After she was not available for some time (as usual), she explained that she had noticed an umbilical infection when visiting her foal. As this had obviously neither been noticed nor treated, she decided to take mother and son back with her. In the horse trailer she had accidentally brought along... She had forgotten to inform them in the "hectic". I can imagine the first, the navel inflammation (would not be unusual at all and also not very dramatic). The latter I find hard to believe - you just don't drive 80 kilometres overland with an empty trailer for no reason, just to visit an animal. But these are exactly the chunks we were accused of. In the meantime, that was already a while ago. And now we are waiting...

And one more thing: the mushroom culture story..:

The cultivation set, which you have already been able to take part in receiving and setting up, contained a very detailed accompanying text. After we had applied the moist soil to the substrate as described and closed the system well again, it should take three to four weeks until the mycelium should appear white on the surface. And hey - after my return yesterday I looked into the boxes (with two previous careful visits there was still no change) and yeah! With one of them I can report success according to the package leaflet! Because it's a trial set with different varieties, I'm not too worried; the second box will get a bit more time and will also develop as expected...

So we had to do some handicraft work: the sides of the "mature" box were removed and the inner foil was put over the edge of the box. We put the former flaps vertically into the box according to the instructions. This way they serve as spacers and roof supports for the plastic cover, which, stretched over it like a small greenhouse, will provide optimal growing conditions. And the whole thing can now stand outside - temperatures between 12 and 18°C are mentioned as the optimum to be able to harvest the first crop in 4-6 weeks.

Factors such as light or temperature fluctuations should not play any role at all at this point. Every day the plastic sheeting must be opened for 5-10 minutes for increased fresh air supply and on this occasion the soil is sprayed with water so that everything always stays well moist without forming waterlogging. We do this, of course - and now we wait...

So the waiting continues. On many fronts (at this point I realise once again how much war rhetoric we still use quite naturally in everyday life) there is hope for a good development, but by no means certain. You will be kept informed...
