Yes it is a fantasy world and yes it is a game but if you take a second to think about some parts that are a staple of a lot of RPGS, they really don't make any sense. Here are five that might have you scratching your head.

Sleep Heals Your Whole Party... Of Everything:

You knew this had to be number one. You are low on life? A night's rest will heal you to full health. You are poisoned and have 4 other ailments? Just pop up a tent and forget the doctor. Half your team is dead? Drag their corpses to a bed, pay 100 gold for the night and be ready to go back out tomorrow. There are a lot of RPG games where sleep heals everything. They tried to make it more sense in games by having characters who go down be 'knocked out' instead of dead. But you still have to carry their bodies around through the world map and I don't see that in any cut scenes. 

How Many F***ing Items Can you Carry - An Inventory That Goes On For Days:

I want to start by saying I like this feature. I don't like having to worry that I can only carry so much and that I have to track back and forth to a store or a container to drop my shit. Sure Fallout made it work, but Fallout is awesome. But for JRPGS, give me that list that scrolls and scrolls and scrolls (although you can only have 99 of each item). Where do they put all that stuff? On second thought maybe I don't want to know the answer to that...

Cut Scene Deaths That Pheonix Downs Can't Heal:

I will not spoil anything but you know the game I am talking about. The scene I am talking about. You just watched that same character die dozens of times to different monsters and spells but all of a sudden phoenix downs and a trip to the inn don't work. Cut scene deaths have their own rules and what happens in a cut scene does not stay in a cut scene.

Monsters That Carry Gold And Items And Gear:

Why does a mutated Dinosaur have gold on him? Where was he stashing that pair of boots that dropped when you killed it? Almost every monster you take out in most RPGS drop gold or gald or whatever the currency of the world is. And most of them also drop loot. Where does it come from? I guess the logical answer is it was on the body of someone they ate earlier. But if that was the case couldn't you go through monster poop to get those same items. That might be a good idea element for an RPG...

Your Party Can Only Have 3 or 4 People At A Time:

You have a team of like a dozen people, where are they? Do they just watch as you are battling to save the planet? I did appreciated Chrono Trigger trying to give you an answer for this. In Chrono Trigger you travel through time as you make your way through the story and one of the characters tells you that only three bodies can travel at the same time. People were used to not questioning it but it was a clever thing to add.
