<center>**LETTER "S" CONTINUED**</center>

<center>**SILVER-SPOTTED SKIPPER BUTTERFLY**</center>

This butterfly is the largest of all of the Skipper Butterflies.  A large, white-silver patch on the lower hindwings can easily be seen when the wings are closed.

<center>I found this Silver-Spotted Skipper on my next door  neighbor's Butterfly bush.</center>

Silver-Spotted Skipper butterflies live in most of the United States and extreme southern Canada.   You can see them flying from May-September.  Adults hang upside down under leaves on hot cloudy days and at night.

Adults feed on nectar of Thistle, Milkweed and many other flowers; favoring purple, blue, red, pink.  Males perch on branches and tall weeds to seek females, who will then lay single eggs on Locust trees, Wisteria plants and legumes like peas and soybeans.

Young Silver-Spotted caterpillars live in folded leaves, and the older caterpillars live in a nest of silked-together leaves and hibernate.
