It's World Environment Day today...and I've just returned from a trip to the incredible Addo Elephant National Park, so I thought I'd share some pictures with you to celebrate World Environment Day. Addo Elephant National Park is located in the eastern part of South Africa close to the city of Port Elizabeth. It was established originally to protect the elephant population in the area. True to it's name, it is a great place to see these marvelous creatures and we had some lovely sightings. One of the best ones was a family group of about 40 individual elephants peacefully grazing on an open field in the late afternoon. The adults were all intent on grazing, but some of the younger teenage bulls were having gladiatorial competitions, copied by the very tiniest of the elephants. Here's a picture of two of these young bulls squaring off whilst in the background the baby elephants also practice wrestling.  The very young elephants finally gave up trying to wrestle each other and went to stand by their mothers. Finally, a close up of an elephant whilst the herd grazes with zebra in the background. These magnificent creatures deserve our love and protection. Aren't they just beautiful!
