## Christmas came early to this budding lumber-jack. 

UPS just dropped off this package. Can you guess what's in the box?

(Well, probably you can, given the title of this post. But what am I supposed to do, abandon Search Engine Optimization in the interests of suspense?)

Isn't that packaging absurd, though? I laughed when I saw this box, but the UPS driver was not amused. "They're really taking a big risk, shipping something like that," he said. And I had to agree. There's a risk of damage to the saw, if something else smacked into the blade. And of damage to just about everyone working in the delivery chain. (Delivery *chain...* See what I did there?) Sure, it's got a sheath over the bar, but it's not even snapped on! It slid off with a gentle tug! So just imagine this sliding around the back of a box truck.

I'd really expected this thing to come in pieces, with some assembly required. In fact, the manual is written as if that's the case. 

Anyway, no one got hurt and the saw seems to be in fine condition. Unpacking it took all of two minutes, and it even came with a tiny bottle of bar oil - enough, apparently, to run it for five minutes. 

When I lifted it, I thought, *holy hell, this thing weighs as much as a gas-powered model!*

## All of the electric chainsaws I've used in the past felt feather-light compared to this one. 

That's why I'd been so excited to [receive a Poulan gas powered chainsaw](https://steemit.com/homesteading/@winstonalden/got-myself-a-chainsaw-i-m-a-little-nervous) a couple of months ago. But my excitement paled after I'd felled a few trees and discovered [what an unreliable, temperamental machine](https://steemit.com/homesteading/@winstonalden/gas-powered-chainsaws-are-really-high-maintenance-and-poulans-are-unreliable) that saw was. 

Now I'm stuck with logs all over my yard and the need for some significant cutting power.

Plus, this tree fell down in the last storm and landed in my pool-hole.

## When I was a kid, I was absolutely fascinated by my step-father's chain saw. 

There seemed to be nothing more masculine and fatherly than the smell of gasoline, exhaust, and wood-chips. I think that's part of the romance of gasoline chainsaws. It's probably why there's also a big prejudice against the electric models. 

When I got older, and was taking down some limbs with a light electric Remington (now stolen), the neighbor said to me, "What's the matter? You don't want anyone to hear you?"

Well anyway, this Worx was the highest rated electric chainsaw I could find on Amazon, and it cost as much as the lowest rated gasoline powered chainsaw - which is the one I already own.

It has a solid-looking, 15 amp motor. That means 1800 watts. It's double the electric power I've handled before, and it sounds to me like the kind of wattage that could trip a breaker. We'll see. Worst case scenario, I'll plug it into the [diesel generator](https://steemit.com/homesteading/@winstonalden/fixing-a-diesel-generator-and-making-my-own-power-for-the-first-time) and make *all* kinds of noise. 

Too bad for me, UPS came after dark. So, I can't run outside with my new toy and start playing. I was tempted to plug it in, inside, and rev the engine a couple of times, but the wife probably wouldn't like it if I got chain lubricant all over the dining room table, because that's where the cat sleeps. So I'll just be a grown-up and wait.

It's going to rain all day tomorrow, and the day after that is Thanksgiving. 

Screw it. I may just have to play lumberjack on Thanksgiving. Gotta build up an appetite somehow!
