I agree, Bitcoin is the Ruler, the Barometer of Measurement. 

I Iike the Derivative analogies of all alt coins. It's perfect. I never broke all the alt coins into the name of 'derivatives'. it's how i was looking at it but i hadn't clarified the preciseness in definition of things...and so i more described the cryptosphere as Bitcoin - The world reserve currency.

Steem and Bitcoin are definitely good positions to focus on. I was fortunate in that i have a friend who started dash mining at the end of march and told me about it and i jumped on...and i started with steem at that time too...and so i was able to convert some dash from my mining contract and putt it into steem.
I haven't bought any steem today.  I feel i almost should though out of principle in favor of it's greatness.
Yesterday was the first day in many days that i didn't put all my funds from genesis mining into steem...i put a a 3rd in. Rules of thirds. @cassidyandfranks He tought me about thinking that way. And i actually I ended up going behind thirds strategy and made a 4th play...and a 5th play actually. I also bought bitcoin yesterday and had that to play with too.
1. bought bitcoin
2.receive dash daily payout from genesis
3. send a 3rd of dash payout from steem power.
4. Start holding more Dash. plus kept the payout from today.
5. Invest in new coins i've been investigating for awhile now and i like...it's the next step in the research inquiry.
6. I picked Burst and Verge.
7. Kept a little bit in bitcoin.
8. Today lot's of holding's, There's still lots i'd like but i've been pretty fortunate to have afforded myself an ample amount of time to investigate.
