"Tower and Blossoms" - A Gouache Painting (With Video / Steps)

Inspired by <a href="https://steempeak.com/photography/@andyjaypowell/moods">a photo post</a> by @andyjaypowell I painted this scene in gouache. I must confess, there were some nice bright watercolors and some watercolor pencils involved, too. So technically, I should call it a "mixed media" painting.

To be honest, I have a bit of a problem with this media naming business. There are watercolor pigments that are really opaque, like gouache. Some gouaches are quite transparent, like watercolor. Watercolors can be dry brushed. Watercolor pencil can be dissolved and brushed, on and off the paper...

All three - gouache, watercolor, and watercolor pencil - are mixtures of pigment, gum arabic, and water. No difference, really, other than the application techniques and the final impact of the dry product on the paper.

So I'm calling this a gouache painting, because the dominating element is the opacity of gouache. The morphing video and the photo series below show the development of my painting.

_Inspiriert durch <a href="https://steempeak.com/photography/@andyjaypowell/moods">einen Fotobeitrag</a> von @andyjaypowell habe ich diese Szene in Gouache gemalt. Ich muss gestehen, es waren auch einige schön leuchtende Aquarellfarben und ein paar Aquarellstifte beteiligt. Rein technisch gesehen sollte ich es also ein "Mixed Media"-Gemälde nennen._

_Um ehrlich zu sein, habe ich ein Problem mit diesen Gemäldeklassifizierungen nach Medien. Und was heißt hier "Mischtechnik"?_ Jedes _Bild entsteht durch das "Mischen" verschiedener Techniken! Es gibt Aquarellpigmente, die echt deckend sind, wie Gouache. Einige Gouachen sind ziemlich transparent, wie Aquarellfarben. Aquarellfarben können trocken aufgetragen werden. Aquarellstifte können mit Wasser gelöst und gepinselt werden, auf der Palette und auf dem Papier..._

_Alle drei - Gouache, Aquarell und Aquarellstift - sind Mischungen aus Pigmenten, Gummiarabikum und Wasser. Es gibt eigentlich keinen Unterschied, abgesehen von den Applikationstechniken und der endgültigen Wirkung des trockenen Produkts auf das Papier._

_Ich nenne dieses Bild also ein Gouache-Gemälde, denn das dominierende Element ist die Opazität der Gouache. Das vorstehende Morphing-Video und die Fotoserie unten zeigen die Entwicklung meines Gemäldes._

Dankeschön. Nein, ich habe leider keinerlei Talent. Das für mich größte Geheimnis ist, man braucht auch keines. Kunst ist überwiegend reines Handwerk, dass jeder lernen kann, der willens ist, die Zeit zu investieren. Vor ein paar Monaten konnte ich gerade mal ein Strichmännchen oder eine ganz grobe technische Skizze malen - kein Witz!

Alles reine Übungssache! Genau hinschauen. Das Gesehne aufs Papier übertragen. Wie sich das Medium auf dem Papier oder der Leinwand verhält. Was man darf und was nicht, u.s.w.. Klar, manche (oft Kinder) können das fast ad hoc; das nennen wir dann "Talent". Andere brauchen Anleitung und viel Übung, können also das fehlende Talent weitgehend durch Fleiß ersetzen. Dass meine Kunstlehrer vor vielen Jahren versäumt haben, mir das einzubläuen, ärgert mich ungemein!

Es ist wie Musik machen: Kein Mensch käme auf die Idee, sich unbedarft ans Klavier zu setzen und sofort eine Beethoven-Sonate rauszuhauen. Man muss mit "Hänschen klein" anfangen und dann üben, üben, üben. Ob man Talent hat oder nicht, stellt sich erst hinterher raus. Manche schaffen am Ende regelrechte Wunder für die Sinne. Die Mehrheit schlägt sich ganz leidlich. Wenn ich dazu gehöre, ist das auch okay; es macht nämlich Spaß :-)

Vielleicht versuchst Du ja auch mal was Neues, von dem Du dachtest, Du hättest kein Talent dazu? Wenn ich dich dazu motivieren konnte, hat sich diese Gardinenpredigt doch gleich gelohnt. :-) Tipp: Für so ziemlich alles gibt es das Grundwissen gratis auf YouTube.
